Going Green – Scott Jones, Ace Parking

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Overnight Reputation. All opinions are 100% mine.

Now that I'm a homeowner, I've been trying to come up with ways to not only decrease my monthly outflow of cash, but increase my green footprint through proper recycling and being even more mindful than before as to what I'm putting down the drain to avoid any bad clog-ups in the house. Primarily due to the fact that it's hard to afford a plumber with a mortgage when things pop up out of no where.

So, I've been doing some reading on how to slowly bring myself into the Green realm of life.  By default the first thing I looked into was solar panels, I feel that the electric companies charge way too much for their services, especially when you have the new luxury of Google technology being hooked through your thermostat helping you out in the house to tell you exactly where your energy consumption is, have I purchased this particular technology yet – no – but reading into it does give me some insight on where to get things started. The other thing that kills me is if you're someone who has a wind turbine or solar panels on your property and the electric company winds up paying you because you have so much energy saved up and can give them extra energy to use for other homes/businesses, even though they aren't giving any of their other customers a break. So that's just bad business to me.

The second thing I've looked into are more environmentally friendly vehicles, I think anything running on battery is beneficial to decrease the carbon footprint. There was one thing that concerned me though… what do you do when the battery runs out when there's no Gas to back things up? That brought me to a company called Ace Parking.  Scott Jones, Ace Parking, is a company that's looking to enhance the "Go Green" efforts by installing Solar Charging Stations and electric vehicle charging stations in parking lots.

Now, all my readers would know that I recently purchased my home in Delaware – however I was born and raised on Long Island (NY). Spending quite a bit of time in and out of Manhattan, I have, somewhat recently, seen an increase in "Green Charging" stations. Am I aware of the company responsible? No. BUT I did think that they were a pretty cool way of making sure anyone with an Electronic Vehicle (EV) wasn't stranded in Manhattan due to a dead battery. I did, however, find it concerning that the ones I've seen weren't actually solar powered, they were working from the same power source as every other light on the block – the local power company.  What makes Scott Jones, Ace Parking different, from anything I've personally seen is the introduction of Solar technology in order to power the charging station.

As of right now I'm only able to locate a list of their parking stations in California, specificially the San Diego area. It's my hope that sometime in the near future they're able to carry the technology Nationwide to increase Green awareness, and give those potentially stranded EV's a fighting chance.

It’s been…hectic…

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

This post brought to you by TwoOfUs. All opinions are 100% mine.

Things have been pretty hectic lately. I’m so overloaded with work that I’m close to losing my mind. The biggest goal for my leaving that horrible office job was for Sean and I to be able to spend more time together. This hasn’t really been working out for either of us considering we’re BOTH so bogged down with work we’ve resorted to chit-chat whenever we pass each other. We have a lot of goals and dreams that we’re working hard to meet, but I’m hoping it doesn’t put a permanent strain on things in the meantime.

I’ve been floating around TwoOfUs.org, it’s a site specifically for relationships. There are different columns for advise, and tips on keeping your relationship fresh. It starts in the Dating category, and works its way from Dating to Exclusive, Engagements, Married couples, and even parents. Obviously being with Sean for as long as I have (6 years in July) we’ve pretty much lost the ‘category’ in which we’re in. We’ve skipped the exclusive stage, we’ve spoken about marriage, life dreams and children and already know that we’ll be together forever, but even without the ring we’ve passed the ‘engaged’ stage. We’re more like an old married couple than anything else. So I found myself reading through multiple categories. Even though we’re not officially engaged/married – we still live our lives as though we are. All of our finances are joined, everything we do we consult the other person, both of our names are on my SUV – there’s no separations there. While I did enjoy the articles and found a few areas to be informative, I’m still having trouble locating that ‘grey’ area that my relationship is in (not that Grey is bad in this case, there’s just no special category name). Life isn’t black and white, the grey tone areas are where people LIVE, I wish there was more about the grey areas on Two of Us.org, but the information on the page itself is helpful.

I think the one thing that caught my eye was the article about over sharing. I find that I do over-share with certain people, but at the same time I know that Sean also knows everything I’m volunteering. There are more personal and private aspects to our life that I don’t blast out all over the internet, or even with close friends. There has to be some kind of separation to insure that you don’t leave your relationship vulnerable.

Another article that caught my eye was to Discuss Finances Before Marriage.  I’ve completely screwed the pooch on this one.  Our finances have pretty much been merged for the last 5 1/2 years.  The upside is we’re fully aware of how much money is needed to get our bills paid, and how much we have left for personal spending.  I’ll admit that I’m the big spender in the relationship, he’s more of the “I can’t justify this” kind of person.  It does take a lot of effort on both our parts to balance things out… but it works.

I’ve taken the time to look through a few of the videos, the one that stood out the most was an interview with Hill Harper, where he discusses the importance of The Conversation. He noted that the world is too involved with technology and no one talks anymore, except through Facebook email and twitter. What he does is he has a get together with friends/family, each of them bring a few cards with different questions on them, they’re pulled together and anonymously the questions are asked for members of the opposite sex to answer them. As an example, mine would probably be something along the lines of “Why do men hold onto underwear when it looks like a skirt and the elastic is holding on with a piece of string?”, this question would be answered truthfully by the men in the group. I’m sure it would bring up a heated discussion, but at the same time – you’re TALKING, it’s not a Facebook thread going back and forth, you’re actually looking at the person in which you’re talking to.

All in all it’s a pretty decent site, lots of tips and tricks, the video’s give you an “ah ha” kind of an effect after words as well, and after watching “The Conversation”, I think I’m going to have to put one of these parties together. I went ahead and marked like on their Facebook page as well.

What questions would you ask?

Trusted ToursI’m still kind of set on getting myself out of the house for a real vacation. Yes, going up to New Jersey at the end of the month doesn’t look like a possibility right now but I do hope to be able to get up there the following month depending on what’s going on with work and what not. I have been surfing around one of my numerous bookmarks, mainly Trusted Tours because you can find everything you need from them. You can basically get information on just about any major city/town of interest. I have it bookmarked as Things to do in Boston for when I actually get the chance to get up there again but my main focus is finding things to do in Orlando. I know that there are major attractions down there but I can only take so much if Disney World and Universal Studios before I get bored. It’s a goal of mine to get to know every aspect of Orlando and I think a great place to go for that info is Trusted Tours. They can even give you a few tips on basic sightseeing tours as well. They have a newsletter too.

I’m to a point now where I’m just itching to get out of here, honestly. I know that there is a lot of work to do but my stress levels are through the roof right now. I need a change of scenery, and I also have this urge to visit family. I think if I’m unable to get up to Jersey at the end of the month I may try and persuade Sean into going up to New York for a couple of days. I’ll have to base it on how my work schedule is though, I know his is filling up quite a bit as well now that he’s working for three people instead of the original one he’s been with for the last couple of years now. Jackie took him on board as a programmer, and a larger site that created a social networking script has taken him on for plugins and upgrades. Everything is working out pretty well for him right now, it’s just a shame that I’m only getting started on things. It’ll all work out in the end, I just think I’m going to have to spend a little more time down at the beach to clear my head. Right now they’re swamped because it’s a pretty warm day and since it’s a weekend all of the tourists are coming back to open up their houses and relax on the beach. I’m going to make a trip up north in hopes to find another beach that the DE residents in Sussex are sent to because of the lack of ability to get anywhere near the beaches we live by year round. It sucks having to go up to Kent county but if traveling is the only way to get an ounce of privacy while still being able to enjoy the beach then I guess it’s worth it.

Taking a Break

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Orlando, FL I’ve been working on saving up some money so Sean and I can go away at the end of the month. The hotel is complimentary, as is a lot of the amenities, it’s just the cost of gas and tolls to get up there, plus some minor spending on a slot machine or two if I actually choose to gamble. I can only do this if I can bring in another $800 in the next 10 days. Since I doubt (as of right now) that it’s actually going to happen I’ll just bank on the reservation until the end of next month and hopefully figure something out then.

It would be great if I could actually afford to look into Orlando Hotels. I’d love to get down to Florida. When you compare the weather to what we’ve been dealing with on the East Coast for the past week – it’d be nice to enjoy the warmth and sunshine for a few days – you know? Another section I’ve been looking into is Lake Buena Vista Hotels, at least it’s in Florida. It really doesn’t matter where I actually wind up going. I think it would just be nice to go on an official vacation sometime soon. Maybe one day we’ll be able to do it, for now it’s more like wishful thinking.

Orlando is the host of the 2008 American Urological Association Annual Meeting and staying at any of their gorgeous hotels will put you in the best location to attend this event. I’m sure anyone in the medical field could find it interesting. I’m not too sure if I’d go but who knows what the future holds. The Orlando Vista Hotel is located close to the entrance to the Downtown Disney Resort Area, it’s also just a half mile from Pleasure Island, and minutes to the Convention Center, SeaWorld, Universal Studios and the Florida Mall.

I’d love to go to SeaWorld, that’s a big trip for me. I’m really into anything Marine so I think that would be a great vacation spot for me. I’m a Dolphin fanatic, I’d love to swim with them one day. I just have to get rid of that severe Fish allergy of mine, even coming in contact with the water with a very small instance of Fish is enough to put me in the hospital. That wouldn’t make for such a great vacation.

Smells Clean!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Renuzit TriScents The other day I was doing some of my regular shopping and went to pick up some refills for my Fabreeze Dual-Scent Plugin. They didn’t have the scents that I was looking for and I wound up picking up one of the new Renuzit Tri-Scents thanks to my trusty starter-kit coupon and I have to say that it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Thank you to Wal-mart for not properly stocking your shelves!

The scent combinations have kept my room smelling fresh and clean, even with Bella’s stinky dog-bones on the floor. I picked up the Morning Meadow combination. It’s got three different scents – Waterfall Mist, After the Rain & Pure Breeze. The cool thing about the tri-scent is you have the ability to set the intensity of your scents. I happen to like Pure Breeze the most so that one will more than likely empty sooner than the other two. I don’t have everything set to maximum though, it’s a small 10×10 room so I really don’t have to set the dial to too high for the entire flow. I leave the window open about 99% of the time (except in the summer) so of course there’s no point in it being on all day long because the smell would just float out the window. So I turn it on a few moments before I’m about to get into bed for the night and then I come back in the room after getting ready for bed and just enjoy the relaxing scents that actually help me fall asleep pretty quick. It’s also a way for me to mask the smell of smoke that filters itself into the bedroom. I do have a sheet up over the door but if there aren’t any windows out in the living room for it to escape then it looks for the available wind-source (which happens to be my bedroom and the office.

BedroomSo in wanting to learn more about the TriScents I headed over to triscents.com to learn about the new product. Right now they’re running a really cool contest where you can enter to win a $20,000 home makeover. If you’re interested in entering the contest you can check out the official rules and sign up with your entry. It sounds really cool, I’d love to see what I can accomplish in a few rooms with someone else’s money heh. I’d have the office reorganized so that Sean and I have more room to move around. I’d definitely get something done in the bedroom because there isn’t enough color in there. I’d have Karen’s armoire replaced with a new one that isn’t about to fall over and I think I’d talk her into getting some new book cases and a real entertainment unit in the living room so that everything can match up nicely. Storage is also a great thing so I’d love for them to make some modifications in the kitchen as well. It’s a huge kitchen but even with all of the cabinets and drawers that are in there, it’s really hard to put something away – there has to be a way to organize all of that and I’d love to have someone come in and help me with it!

Just itching to go…

Travel Tours While I know money isn’t that great right now, I really hope to be able to get up to New York soon. I called my father last night and while things seem to be going OK there’s still that wish for me to be up there. My father’s birthday is coming up, he’s going to be 60 this year. Yea, he was 36 when I was born but that’s OK – he did a damn good job. My sister’s birthday is three days later, she’ll be 22 this year. You kind of wonder where all of the time went in the last 20-something years, you know?

Anyway, it’s my goal to get enough cash together in the next couple of weeks so we can take the trip up there at the end of June. Maybe I’ll get lucky enough and one of my various interviews will come through, I don’t know. It’s just important to me that I actually get up there. Things with the family are “OK”, I found out that my mother thought she had a stroke but it’s actually Bells Palsy. My sister didn’t even find out until like three days after it happened, but my family just seems to like keeping secrets. How could you not tell someone’s daughter that their mother is in the hospital? I could understand if my sister was like 10 years old or something, but she’s 21 – I think avoiding telling her is absolutely uncalled for.

So yea, there are a few different reasons for me to get up there. It’s not like I’m looking for things to do in New York that are out of the norm for me, like going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art or something. I’ve been there before, I’m going to New York for family, not even a vacation at this point. My idea of a vacation is floating around in the Casino’s of Atlantic City (Harrah’s being my favorite – of course). But this is a family thing, that’s the most important right now.

If you want to find something to do in New York you can poke around Trusted Tours & Attractions. They have a free e-newsletter, and give you family vacation ideas as well.

Going Home

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

TravelIt’s my hope that sometime over the course of the next two months, I’m able to hop in the car and take a trip up to New York to visit family. With cancer spreading like wildfire, and the Christening of my cousin – the trip would definitely be worth it. My issue right now is money, I don’t even think I’d be able to afford the $120 round-trip, let alone just being up there in general. From gas to tolls it’s not a cheap trip to take. I know it’s not like I’m going to be in Key West Snorkeling or anything, but it’s still damn expensive to travel through two and a half states. For those who don’t live in the Tri-state area, you probably wouldn’t understand. Unfortunately anyone coming into or out of New Jersey or New York has to pay some kind of a toll. I think it’s stupid considering I can travel the entire length of Delaware for $3, and that’s only if I stay on Route-1 the entire time. Either way I just know that I have important things to do in New York and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get up there. It’s really depressing. I just need at least ONE damn store to call me back and say “Come in for an Interview!”

Kettering University

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Kettering universityAs many of you know, I’m still looking into colleges. I’m leaning towards Devry right now but that’s because they have exactly what I’m looking for. A quick two-year degree that I can complete in six months. I’m going to need financial aid and all kinds of things in order to afford it but eventually I’ll be able to figure it out so I can just enroll and get it done with – finally.

During my search for schools I did come across Kettering University, they’ve taken a unique viral approach to getting students to look into their school. They have little webisodes, which I find amusing on top of being informative, I posted one of the first ones. I saw them all and they were equally interesting but this one basically gets to the point the fastest:

Kettering UniversitySo after that I went floating around to see what they had to offer and while there isn’t anything of interest for me personally, they do have more ‘hands on’ kind of methods for those looking into mechanical engineering and other majors like it. Supposedly the US News and World Report has ranked Kettering as the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing engineering in it’s America’s Best Colleges Guide for 2008. That, to me, shows just how highly regarded the school really is. It’s too bad I’m stuck on the computer technology kick. They do have a Computer Science course but there really isn’t a focus on the field that I’d like to go into so I’ll have to overlook that for now. I do think if you’re looking for a good school then they’re worth checking out. If you go to their website you can view all of the Webisodes and laugh along with me. Why wouldn’t you want to look at something that’s considered one of the US News Best Colleges?

Nintendo Wii

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

WiiI know that I was lucky enough to get mine last year but there are still people waiting desperately to pick up a Wii. I have to say that it’s one of the best systems out there when it comes to having fun. A lot of people purchased a PS3 over the course of the last year but there’s really two reasons for that. While the graphics are nice on it and all it really was just the only one left to find because more than 50% of the Playstation users saw that minus the blue-ray , it’s a complete waste of money. I know a few people with PS3’s but none of them actually use it for more than watching movies. When it first came out there weren’t any good games for it, at all.

So while everyone else spent a wasted $800 on a PS3, I spent a very nice $275 on a Wii. It was $25 more because we bought it from a seller in Canada. It works great and even looks pretty nice on our new 37″ HDLCD in the office. We do have quite a few games for it but have limited ourselves to the WiiSport games, mainly because we’re now bowling fanatics. The sports game comes with the Wii, something a lot of people don’t realize. We did buy “WiiPlay” which has a controller and tons of mini-games to play, including Pool – something I’ve got down to a science at this point.

For those interested in getting their own Wii, however, there’s a company that’s giving you a chance to win one. Click Here for a Chance to Win a Nintendo¬Æ Wii‚Ñ¢!. It’s worth it if you truly want one, nothing like winning something great – right?

Safety First

Monday, February 11th, 2008

LifeLock Have any of you seen the commercial for the new program called Lifelock? They’re a service that protects your identity, they’re so confident that their systems are secure that the representative of the program actually lists his social security number in public in hopes that someone attempts to use it so that they can instantly be proven of Lifelock’s effectiveness.

They offer pretty great service for only $10 a month. They include:

  • Proactive Identity Theft Protection
  • Reduced Junk Mail
  • Reduced Credit Card Offers
  • $1 Million Service Guarantee

Based on the reduce in Junk Mail alone I’m pretty interested in signing up with this company. I can’t tell you how many credit card offers I receive on a weekly basis. At least two a day from numerous companies, mainly Capital One which I find strange considering I’m already a user of Capital One’s services. Junk mail isn’t fun either, magazine offers, magazines I never signed up for but companies insist that I have to pay for them.

It’s unfortunate but identity theft is at an all time high and finding a service that helps you from falling victim to it, can really benefit you financially. It may not bring in any extra money during the month but it will help you avoid having to go into debt because someone else was a loser and decided not to do things on their own name and insisted that dragging someone else’s name into the mud would be the way to go for financial freedom.

Busy and equally productive

Monday, January 21st, 2008

PPPI crashed around 8:30PM last night. The night before I found myself finishing “Copy Cat” because it got to the point where it was just too good to put down. Sean was a bit taken back by the fact that I not only finished the entire 450 page book in less than 5 total reading hours but he also didn’t understand why I wouldn’t go to sleep and just read it later. It’s one of those times when you’re so drawn in and taken back by everything that you have no choice but to push yourself and keep on going. I kept myself awake by avoiding laying down, which is probably why my back is bothering me – based entirely on how I was sitting. I also had a few cups of coffee and one of my Starbucks shooter things. That was more than enough caffeine to get me through the day and I really did need it.

Karen and I did a little shopping yesterday. She was heading up to Dover so she could go to Sally’s. It’s a beauty supply store and there isn’t one anywhere near us so the 40-minute drive was really the only option. I’m not complaining though. The second we walked in I was like a kid in a candy store. I’m all into the hair aspect of being a female, this may have a lot to do with having a salon-based upbringing. I floated around the shampoo, loaded up on conditioner, oil and other moisturizing leave-ins were purchased as well. I even picked up a new brush to put in my purse and later realized that there was a compass on it. I have no idea as to why they’d put it on a brush but considering it’s meant for purses and backpacks, thanks to it’s small design, I’m sure it’ll come in handy at some point.

I wound up calling my sister while I was in the store to ask her about a semi-new product called “Hemp”, put your bongs away it isn’t for glaucoma. It’s supposed to be a pretty intense moisturizing shampoo and conditioning set, and since I bought both products I was given a cute little see-through bag to match. I’m actually really happy with the bag because the second I saw it I saw myself reorganizing under the sink in the bathroom so I could easily get to all of my hair products. I swear I can’t wait for Sean and I to have a larger bathroom to work with so there’s the option for more storage. While I only have a wet/dry flat-iron and a high-watt hair dryer that doesn’t mean I don’t wish to expand. The way most women are about make-up, I am about hair product so naturally I want everything so I can mix and match and just play around as much as possible for the absolute best look.

Anyway, on our way back from Sally’s we took the long 40-minute drive back down to Rehoboth and stopped in Walmart, while entering the parking lot our female-intuition based radars picked up that someone was having a clearance sale. Rounding the corner there was a big sign on Fashion Bug that caught our eyes, “Up to 60% off”. Quickly parking the car we bolted for the door and went our separate ways, she floated into the skinny section and I pushed my way through some extra-large bbw’s in the plus sized department. Something about big girls and sales, it’s strange.

When I finally made it to the proper racks I floated around and landed myself two new robes (Buy 1 – Get 1) and the cool thing about both of them were the fact that they were already 50% in price ANYWAY. The one robe was originally about $50 and it was on sale for $25, then it was put in clearance for $12.99 when you make the purchase of a second one with equal or lesser value. So now I have a pretty pink robe with hearts on it, a nice blue robe with moons and stars and a new bed shirt that says “Lovable” on it. I almost came home with a new jacket but I really had to wonder if I was willing to spend $50 on something I can only wear a few weeks out of the year, it was also of “lesser quality” in regards to the fabric so that altered things for me as well. It’s original price was around $120, it was on sale for about $45 which is very reasonable, I have to say. I’m not a fan of olive green so I looked into the dark gold color, only next to the green it looked more like Orange than anything, so I guess it was copper. Either way it’s still sitting on the rack at the store, so I guess you can imagine how that turn out went, now can’t you?

The bitter cold made us run to the car so we could repark closer to Walmart, after going around the parking lot for about 10 minutes we finally found a spot close enough to the door where we weren’t going to freeze our butts off and proceeded to finish up our shopping day. I was done about 20 minutes before she was, but she’s known for getting lost in stores so it’s not a big deal. I stood up front for a while and waited, couldn’t see her anywhere so I went outside to load the car and have a quick cig. She’d locked the doors so I had to walk back in and wait patiently, we finally met our glances just as she was coming to the check-out line and I went to wait outside for her, not realizing that the temperature dropped about 10¬? in ten minutes. After she made her way out the door and bolted to the car we basically threw everything into the van and headed home. Upon arrival we saw that the weather channel had us listed at 3¬?F(-16¬?C) and boy does that explain a lot.

We all had dinner, I retired to the bedroom and while my original goal was to begin reading another book; within a half hour of my being in the room I crashed. Sean woke me up about 3am when he was taking Bella out for a walk and then I wound up falling back asleep around 5:30am. I slept until noon and I’ve been up ever since. I’m just now getting around to doing everything I needed to get done tonight and hopefully I’ll be able to send out a few more resumes before I get to bed.

Shout Back

Friday, January 4th, 2008

For quite some time now I’ve made it a point to be a member of any community I live in. I was always part of fundraisers for as long as I can remember. I remember raising funds for the Drama class in middle school, I’ve also helped to raise money for breast cancer research in high school. On top of that I always sold items for the school to bring in some extra funding for sports and academics alike. Even to this day I donate to random charities around the US. I know that there are other countries out there in need of help but with all of the poverty and other problems that American’s have, it’s hard to give something to another country when we’re just as much in need thanks to the bone head running our country. That’s a different rant though.

You’re probably wondering where this is coming from?

Today I came across a company named Shout Back. They’re a website that runs many different options for you to raise funds for your cause. The point of their site is to have a medium where all of your group members and supporters can come together and get the job done. You can type in your ZIP code and look for the activities going on around you. Unfortunately I was unable to locate any for both Rehoboth Beach and Glen Cove, but that’s OK. I know that my money is still going to fundraisers that are valued throughout the US. You can start your own group or sponsor an existing one. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find ANYTHING but I’m sure there’s something that I’m just overlooking. I was hoping to get around to an auction but that’s ok.

Taking a little road trip

Friday, December 14th, 2007

?For Christmas, Sean and I are taking a trip down to Ocean City to see the “Festival of Lights”. We went last year and they were pretty busy. Instead of going on a Saturday night we’re planning on going earlier in the week. There’s also an Italian restaurant down there that I’m interested in trying. There aren’t any good places in Delaware so maybe Maryland would give me something to look forward to. We do hope to take another road trip though, I’m actually considering going up to Washington DC, it isn’t really that far from here, I’m just dreading going over the bay bridge in order to get there.

I’ve always wanted to completely submerge into all of the attractions that D.C. has to offer. Walking the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial. Going to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum even the International Spy Museum. I’d also love to go to the top of the Washington Monument and look at everything from a birds-eye view. Maybe even head to Capitol Hill to shop at the Eastern Market or visit Union Station. There are just so many endless possibilities.

I’ve just recently signed up for the Trusted Travel eNewsletter. They give you information on all of your destination spots from around the USA. Destinations from Atlanta to Washington DC, even Tampa and New York, the possibilities are endless.

Amelia Island, Florida

Driving home last night was pretty difficult. It was a bit chilly and the rain didn’t help very much either. I started thinking about how nice it would be to get back to the house so I can curl under my comforter and just drift off to sleep. This weekend was a bit exhausting, even though I got more sleep in the last three days then I have in the last three weeks – but I guess that’s besides the point. It was more than likely the depression from losing money that was taking it’s toll on me, sleeping it off was the only option last night.

Sean and I were talking about taking another vacation in the future though. I’ve been poking around the net in search of a warmer vacation spot. While I absolutely love the cold, it’s nice having warm weather at some point in time as well. I actually got pretty lucky though, I found this place called Amelia Island in Florida and they’re having a Lodging Special. If you stay for two nights you’re given the third one for free. This is good for either a Hotel or even a Bed and Breakfast, it just depends on who’s participating in the offer. Supposedly Amelia Island was voted one of the top 10 islands in America. There’s golf courses and shopping plus a lot of activities as well. The offer they’re running right now is valid until the end of February – we were looking to take a vacation for Valentines Day so I want to say that this place is moving towards the top of the list – that’s for sure.

Unsure of what to get my grandmother…

NAI’ve been searching the ‘net for Christmas ideas so I can figure out what to give my grandmother. It’s hard to shop for her because she has specific taste and while she appreciates everything she receives, that doesn’t mean she’ll actually find a use for it. So to avoid getting her the typical and traditional gifts of clothing or knick-knacks to keep around the house, I’ve actually been looking into grandfather clocks. She recently got rid of one that she’d had for years, while it was worth quite a bit of money – it was also in poor condition so she decided to bite the bullet and say goodbye to it. So I figure I’ll poke around for different clocks and I came across Howard Miller clocks, they’re gorgeous quality clocks that really make a statement in every room they’re in. I wouldn’t want to replace the mantel clocks though, the areas surrounding her fireplaces are typically done in a very traditional Italian style that everyone could appreciate. But after that, I’m unsure of what route to take. Home decor could always be an interesting gift but you have to make sure it matches the rest of the decor in the house or there really is no point in buying something for her.

So I started thinking outside of the box and realized that she was going to be redoing her deck this upcoming spring while they’re fixing her underground pool. She always has it decorated nicely out there so naturally she’s always in search of gorgeous accessories to create the whole look and feel of the backyard. So I figured I’d look into an Indoor/Outdoor Pool Clock. It’s water-resistant and can be mounted to a solid surface. It’s battery operated but I think it’d be cooler if there were a solar powered option, but that’s the “green” side of me kicking in. Either way I’ve been doing my homework before buying a clock for my grandmother so hopefully I’ll be able to find something interesting.
