Buying Business Cards

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I’m starting to get low on business cards, I’ve been handing them out like they were candy and unfortunately the company I used to go through decided to update their pricing, so I’ve been surfing the ‘net looking for a few new places. I came across GreatFX Business Cards, and they look rather promising. I already have a template created, and luckily they give me the option of uploading the template to their server and they print them from there. I think I’m going to go with a glossy card this time, the basic flat design that I was using before isn’t really saying much to me anymore. Yes, I know “Krissy, it’s just a card with info” but based on how I like to control every aspect of things, of course I’m going to make sure it’s an interesting looking card to hand out.

It’s kind of like the card my step-father gave me in regards to his tattoo place. One of the artists drew a design, they sent it in for their two-sided business cards and they glossed it over. Based on that alone (instead of the very dull boring one I got from my tattoo place) I found this other place a little more appealing. It sounds dumb, I’m sure, but a card is a card and unless there’s something unique about it, I don’t pay much attention to it.

PPP This GreatFX place also does magnets too, I don’t know if I’d ever get into the magnets business. However, I’ve seen fridges that are LOADED with them because it’s easy access from the kitchen phone to search for your favorite eatery and find the number. I can get about $1,000 cards for $69, which really isn’t a bad price at all. I was paying about $80 through the previous company and if I wanted a glossed image that would probably cost me about $100, so saving $30 is always a good deal to me.

In order to bring in some business I keep them pinned up on pin-boards in almost every supermarket and store I visit that offers that kind of advertising to their customers. I can’t tell you how many clients I’ve had in the past that only found me because they walked past my card when they were on their way home from the store. So it’s an inexpensive way to bring in some decent business. I think one of the largest accounts I landed through business card advertising was in the $15k range. Most people don’t make that in a year, I did it in a month. Thank goodness for cheap advertising that’s visually appealing – right?

Great Priced Furniture: Dining Rooms

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

With decorating on my mind, I’ve been moving full speed ahead at building a bookmarks folder with house hold items that I know will be purchased after we get our house. When it comes to me, the only important rooms are kitchen and bedroom, but that’s typically where all of my time is being spent. I’ve been looking into dining room furniture because I do spend a lot of time cooking and based on the few places we’re interested in, counter space is limited. So extending the kitchen via dining room table is naturally the route that I want to take.

I’ve spent most of my time searching around GreatPricedFurniture.com, I like their site. I’ve come across them on a Google search more times than I can remember. Part of me wonders if they have an actual show-room anywhere because some of their products are GORGEOUS. If I had the kind of money to fill a big house with quality furniture for dramatic effects, the way most of their images are on the site, I’d be a happy, happy girl.

Web Hosting Unleashed – My search continues.

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

I’ve been looking around the Internet for a new hosting company. I’m sick and tired of the horrible service that I’m dealing with everything from constant server outages and email spam issues to the account suspension a few weeks ago that seemed to go right over my head – even though I’m the one who’s paying for everything so naturally I should have been informed FIRST, you know?

So, I’m going through numerous websites and comparing pricing, I came across Web Hosting Unleashed, they currently have a database of 2,084 web hosting companies. I learned that the number one reviewed host is Lunarpages, a company that I’ve actually been looking into. The only thing about them that I’m not too fond of is the pricing they have set for the resources that I would personally need in a dedicated server. I’ve been lucky enough to find a few hosts of the same caliber with some saving and a few more resources at the same time. I used Web Hosting Unleashed to locate a few of them, the rest were based on word of mouth through a few colleagues of mine.

This site just recently did an update of their template about 10 months ago, and I have to say they’ve done a really nice job on it. I like sites that are focused around Web 2.0 styling so naturally my eye is being drawn there. I’m sure this is only a fad thing but when vectors and scratched up images were the big thing, I always found plain-jane CSS templates to be more appealing.

Another thing I like about them is their Coupons section. I’m a coupon code fanatic so naturally going through them is appealing to me. I can’t find one for my top-choice companies but that’s OK considering I know of the other options out there in case they don’t work out for me. I guess I’m just itching to start fresh and move things over, who knows. I do know that Web Hosting Unleashed will help me out and that’s all that matters to me.

They also have a hosting guide, it’s a pretty detailed page of different searches you can make, and what hosting terms mean. Say you’re interested in starting up a reseller account and are looking into billing software, you can search specifically for hosts that offer a free billing software to use with your clients. I’d say that’s a nifty resource. It helps organization – that’s for sure.

This was a sponsored post.

Priviate MD

PPPWhat do you feel about Online Lab Tests?

I’m looking around PrivateMDLabs.com and you can use the site for basically EVERYTHING. There’s the ability to get the proper supplies for STD testing, direct-to-consumer lab tests, HIV testing, Liver Testing, Drug Testing, Herpes Testing and even Anti-aging testing. I don’t know why but I found this to be a wee-bit strange. Mainly because I’ve never heard of anything like this before.

The benefit to all of this, naturally, is the ability to privately get yourself, a loved one or even a potential employee tested for something rather important but at the same time – is there ANYTHING that can’t be done from home anymore? Based on what I’ve read, it’s also a financial benefit as well. Approximately 35% of the US population is uninsured and going to an actual doctors office to get these tests can be rather expensive. Going through this particular company, or any private company I would imagine, is more than likely going to save you a bit of money in the end.

Test results no longer come in the mail, or via phone service. You’re now given your results over email. This is why one would consider going through a Private MD. I’ll be the first to tell you that doctors are over paid for their services, especially considering the nurses (in many cases) are the ones doing the real work (hospital wise). A doctor walking around randomly checking charts and giving recommendations for $250,000 a year is absolutely absurd in comparison to the $50,000 a nurse is making when they’re the ones helping to change the sheets, constantly check the machines and make sure the patients themselves are comfortable. I’d take a nurses position over an actual doctor any day, but this is a completely different post that could easily exceed 5,000 words if I ever went to write it up.

Moving right along…

I do respect anonymity and those interested in saving a dollar but seriously, the only real way (that I know of) to test your Liver is a stool sample, and that alone just grosses me out. The HIV/STD tests, I can understand those, especially the drug testing. But I would assume that it would be easier to see an actual doctor when it comes to things like cholesterol testing and blood-testing in general. I’m the kind of person who would leave that kind of thing up to the professionals (and yes, I mean the nurses) even though I’d be spending a bit more.

Shared Webhosting

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

I’ve been looking into other shared hosting plans. I know this may sound strange considering I run my own servers. But I’m looking for outside resources so I can get sites off the server that I don’t personally want taking up anymore room than they do. When I combine my four domains, I’m going through about 100gb of bandwidth a month and since most of them are on the same server, it’s just taking away from those who actually pay for the service. I’m very easy to please as far as requirements are concerned.

Unfortunately with my resources I’m limited to either large reseller accounts or standard hosting plans that offer up quite a bit of bandwidth. I refuse to go to anyone that offers a few terebytes to their customers because I think it’s wrong to offer more bandwidth than is actually set to the server, but I also understand that no one paying $10 a month for webhosting is going to use over 2tb of bandwidth on a monthly basis, either.

So I’ve been poking around concentric.com and their plans are a little pricey for my budget, but I can understand why they’re charging what they are. I would expect that 10GB of diskspace, and 100GB of bandwidth would be in the $67.95mo. range but at the same time. I know there’s got to be a resource out there for half the price with a reseller account. The $75 Google AdWords credit is great, but I also refuse to have anything to do with Google.

This is my preference though, if you’re looking for hosting then head over to concentric.com.

Uninstalling, Reinstalling, and still not getting anywhere.

I’m not too sure what’s going on with email at the moment. Anything going through the server doesn’t seem to make it to the recipient and on top of that, anything going through Gmail doesn’t seem to do it either. At this point, knowing full well that Gmail isn’t that faulty, I think I’m having some trouble with Thunderbird because that seems to be the only option at the moment. I’m going to just log directly into the send mail and see if things work from there, if they do then I may have to reinstall Thunderbird because that’s the only option at this point. I’ve been looking into new a new Mailing Lists Company as well, the mailing list I’m working with now isn’t working out that great for me either. It’s like some outside force doesn’t want me doing anything. I know that I need a vacation but being unable to contact people just adds more stress to the situation.

Teen Rehab Echo Malibu

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

PPPI’ve spoken about it before, and I’ll continue to speak about it until I’m blue in the face (or in this case, in the fingers). Drug addiction is a serious condition that isn’t to be taken lightly. I’ve lost friends and family to many addiction based diseases and wouldn’t want to wish that kind of pain on anyone, friend or foe. If you, or someone you know, has a drug related dependency or is going through alcohol addiction – get to a treatment center! There are many of them located all over the world and there’s no excuse for not helping someone in need. For those of you in the Malibu area, you could consider checking out Teen Rehab ECHO MALIBU. If you’re not in the area, Google is full of fine resources that can help everyone world-wide.

Vontoo Voice Messaging

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

PPPI came across Vontoo voice messaging. The basis of the system is to enable organizations to create, send, and even track voice messages to people who want to hear from them.

It’s a pretty basic break down – but an effective one for those who use the phone so often. You create your customized message and then send it to an individual or group list of recipients that have signed up for your service and from there you can track the messages to see if they were received live or recorded on voice mail. And, unlike a lot of the services I’ve seen, they understand the Do Not Call list, and respect your privacy in the process.

I read through their success stories and naturally the one that stuck out the most for me was the NYFD. They go on to explain how it’s hard to keep in touch with all of the retirees for Engine 67 and they’re in the process of organizing a reunion event. They note that there are a few guys that are hard to get in touch with and using this service voids them of having to make multiple long distance phone calls.

After reading this, I went on to think about how this particular company could help other businesses and I thought of my friends mom. She’s been an Avon saleswomen for lord knows how many years and her phone books are filled with both the current and past customers that she’s accumulated over the last 20 years. I may actually email her after I’m done writing this up, it could be pretty easy for her when it comes to calling them up in regards to new products and promotions. There’s an opt-in/opt-out function for anyone so if they don’t appreciate the calls they can easily have themselves removed from the list. I just wish it were that easy when dealing with other companies, I’m still getting phone calls about products that I turned down over a year ago. If it were as easy as pressing a button and saying “remove me now”, I probably wouldn’t avoid the phone.

Resource: Deal Locker

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I’m poking around the ‘net with my usual coupons and promo codes found on Deal Locker for a few important household items. Mainly electronics coupons because we intend to upgrade a few things, like the TV’s and maybe a few monitors here and there. I’m content with mine but I know Sean needs better ones and considering our main form of combined income is all based on the Internet at this point, we’re going to need a few improvements here and there in order to pay the loan back, you know?

I like this new site though, deallocker.com, it’s mainly run by consumers and you don’t have to fish through expired codes before you get to the good ones. That’s one issue I was having with a previous site considering all of the purchases I’ve been making with Staples in the past. They’re a bit pricier when it comes to office equipment but the codes help so that balances itself out. I know I’ve spoken about Staples a lot but that’s mainly because they have everything I need. Where else are you going to find a comfy office chair marked down to $30 that isn’t a POS? Walmart? Kmart? Puhlease!

Another interesting thing about this particular site is their shopping tips and coupon blog. I’ve been using promo/coupon codes for so long that their tips really aren’t anything new to me but I figured I’d share the link for anyone who’s never really done this kind of shopping before. I just think if you can walk into a store with a coupon clipped out of the weekly mailer, then using them online should be no different. Sure, you may only save yourself a few dollars but think of that as covering the taxes.

DealLocker.com isn’t limited to just the US, there’s a database of companies listed all over the world so if you’re visiting here from say Germany, you can still find some great deals as well.

Bust over Blackjack

Monday, August 27th, 2007

PPPFor years now I’ve played backgammon, thanks to my grandmother. Recently I found the ability to play backgammon online that doesn’t require me logging into a website over-loaded with many multi-player games that slow servers down. This is why I’m a fan of Backgammon Masters, no surprise there though.

I’m a bit surprised though. Turns out they weren’t just going to settle for backgammon, perudo and poker – they’ve expanded. They added Blackjack to their list of games, which is pretty cool considering it’s a fairly easy game that doesn’t require a lot of skill. My apologies to the avid Blackjack player but seriously now, how hard is it to add? I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen with 17 saying “hit me”. I also can’t tell you how many wives I’ve seen actually HIT the husband because of a move like that.

Okay, so a quick break down of their new stuff:

The BackgammonMasters BlackJack game, offers a multiplayer table where up to five players are spaciously seated and playing at the same table simultaneously, with the option of participating in real-time chat. Besides the sophisticated graphics and avatar modes, the software includes a unique View Mode adding another dimension to the fast-paced game whereby players can sit in on an existing game and watch the action before joining in.

So if you’re interested in playing, maybe even playing against me in anything, head on over to BackgammonMasters.com, download the free software and go from there. There are multiple languages supported so you’re sure to know what’s going on without any major confusion either. Just don’t bust in excitement, eh? hah

Nope, don’t think so.

We’re still trying to figure out where we’d like to go on Vacation. It’s proving to be a bit more difficult than we originally thought. Sure we could use our free rooms up in Atlantic City, or we can hop on a plane and go to Australia or something.

I’ve always been interested in Sydney but even more-so I’ve thought about Brisbane because I know someone who lives there, we’ve been talking for years now. She loves the entire country and that isn’t surprising to me considering she’s moved so much that she’s forgotten where she was actually born. I know she’s been in Brisbane for the last few years or so, I just haven’t spoken to her in a few weeks but I think she was going away with her husband or something, she was talking about hotels in Sydney for a while.

I’m unsure of just how close these places are to each other, but I’m sure Google will give me enough information for that one. I’m just not sure how well I’d do when it comes to flying. I haven’t been on a plane since I was maybe 18 months old and I don’t even remember taking that trip so the thought of flying over large bodies of water is scaring the bejesus out of me. I know people who’ve spent quite a bit of time flying and they’ve all told me that it’s just the initial fear based on the media. It’s really not like that for me though, I could care less about the media. It’s just the heights thing that gets to me, not to mention the watery grave known as the Pacific Ocean…:ugh:

So close we can taste it…

Friday, August 24th, 2007

After going through numerous companies, we’re now in the process of selecting the home and getting the loan. It’s been pretty hard on both of us. It’s had me questioning a few things about him and I’m sure the same questions have come up with him about me, but hopefully in the very near future we’ll be able to get things to work much smoother with our daily lives.

I keep thinking about how exactly I’m going decorate, no matter what kind of a home we wind up getting. It could be a shack in the woods or a trailer along the interstate but we’ll still make it home, no matter what the cost. Of course I’d consider a nice quiet area and at least 1800sqft but that’s coming from a person who’s lived in an apartment all her life and who wants to expand as far as she possibly can!

I’m not one of those people that’s into “themes” when it comes to how a house looks. I want something both comfortable and clean so as far as furniture is concerned I’ll naturally look into big and fluffy and then worry about the actual color choices. A big thing for me though? Clocks! I’m used to having a lot of them around because my family has always been time conscious. Sean and I just recently purchased one of the Howard Miller clocks for the bedroom. We do have an alarm clock in there, but there’s a big of elegance to the one we chose. And it’s also practical, considering the odd screen on the alarm clock we have. It’s an iPod dock as well but there’s something about the contrast of the LCD screen that makes it difficult to see the time on the clock itself. Great for charging the iPod and does actually wake you up, it just takes a while to set the alarm because of the inability to see the screen. Anyhow, the one we picked up is a pretty basic wall clock we decided that going with something too bulky in a new where near formal room would really look odd. So picking up a very simple one with a thick black frame made us very happy.

We know for sure that a King-sized bed is a must, so far we do already have sheets and a comforter considering our make-shift King but eventually we’ll be upgrading. Both of us are finding it harder and harder to get off the floor when we wake up in the morning. His knee has been acting up and my back is just about shot so we’re looking into something thicker than 5 inches of foam on the floor. I found one at Sleepy’s that’s very reasonably priced and depending how money comes in over the course of the next month. I think that’s just a purchase we’re going to have to make as soon as possible. As of right now our color scheme (in both rooms) is Gray, Black and White. I think we’ll pull some Pink into it but I’ll have to work that one in myself because he has absolutely no desire for a Pink room. It’s not like I’m painting the walls or anything. I’m talking throw pillows or something to break up the darkness of the room!

This all requires money though, guess I should get back to work heh.

Eye of The Dolphin

Friday, August 24th, 2007

After I woke up this morning and went through my whole routine, Sean informed me of a new movie coming out called Eye of the Dolphin.

I’m not BIG on movies, not the way he is. He compared this new movie to Flipper which was a show that I adored for years when I was a child. To this day I’ve yet to see a Dolphin. I keep trying to get Sean to bring me up to Jersey for a day on the Ferry because the Dolphins supposedly swim around in the late summer / early Fall when the water warms up a little.

PPPThe story is the typical father daughter movie as some might say. A young girl is expelled from school and forced to live with her father in the Bahamas who really has no time for her. After their personalities clash she feels as though she’s a prisoner on the Island and then she forms a friendship with a Dolphin and the rest is kind of the typical chick flick I would assume. I’m not really sure if I’d actually go see it, it may be one of those random DVD rentals in the future for me – honestly. I mean, look at the water? Is that not absolutely gorgeous? The one thing I can say about images like these is for the most part, the photos aren’t doctored. The water there is crystal clear and should remain that way for as long as humanly possible.

In any event, I embedded the trailer. If you’re interested in the movie you can enter to win free movie tickets by going to eyeofthedolphin.net/contest. Freebies are always fun, right?

Resources: 4Rehabilitation.com

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

The following is a writeup for 4rehabilitation.com.

I’ve been talking about drug treatment for quite some time considering how many friends I’ve lost to drugs, but literally and emotionally. I can’t tell you how many people I know who are now dealing with the legal system on top of their drug abuse because they just didn’t know when to quit. 4rehabilitation.com is a treatment referral service where specialists connect you to the right drug/alcohol treatment centers based on your needs. Choosing a drug rehabilitation and treatment program is difficult for everyone involved. At no cost to you, they offer treatment program information for treatment and recovery of drug and alcohol addictions. If you know someone who truly needs to be provided with these services, then I would strongly suggest pointing them here.

Resources: Mac Pokerstars

Monday, August 20th, 2007

The following write up is for Mac Pokerstars.

Being as I’m in the process of purchasing my iMac, quite a bit sooner than anticipated, I’ve been keeping a very long list of bookmarks for websites that I’ll be visiting on a regular basis. This means for either software and product downloads or even just sites that seem to work the best on Safari based browsers. Being a PC member for so long, Mac is almost like an elite club that I’ve been lingering around and never actually applied for – you know?

I’m someone who will take some time here and there and load up a few game websites just to break up the monotony of reading line after line of code on a regular basis. Sure, I can code up a template faster than anyone I know but the photoshop end of things take a lot out of me. I find myself playing Poker quite a bit so I’ve floated around websites like PokerStars.com and other sites where I’m looking for tips and tricks while I’m playing for free over on Yahoo.

The thing is, I’m a gambler so finding out that PokerStars is working on new software for Mac users has got me intrigued. A fellow webmaster located on PokerOnMac.com has been keeping track of this new development since 2006 (based on how his archives go back). He gives you a full break down of everything you can expect from this new software. He also explains many aspects of the site as it is right now for the PC based users and the limited group of Intel based Mac running boot camp or parallels.

The thing I like about PokerStars is they really do come across like an actual Casino. As a Total Rewards member with Harrah’s (Ceasers, Showboat, Bally’s…etc) you’re given points for all the money you earn, or even just showing up at the casino. These points turn to cash and then you can use the points to buy products. With PokerStars, you can use your points to buy everything from iPods to Plasma TVs, even a car. It’s pretty darn cool. I probably wouldn’t have ever known this if I didn’t come across pokeronmac.com though, while I do read the sites I don’t typically look into the benefits considering I’m not financially sound at the moment to actually sign up and throw some money onto this site, you know?

Maybe when they come out for the Mac I’ll go poke around as an actual member, who knows – I may do pretty well and could wind up owning that house afterall.

MIA

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I’m way behind on many things. I just now got to the mound of email that was piling up over the last two days. I’ve been really busy getting loan based things in order but after thinking about it, while I do want to have a place of our own, we may wind up taking out a personal loan (instead of a home loan) and then going to rent an apartment. We really only need 1000sqft at the absolute largest. Naturally I want an actual HOUSE that I can call my own but at this point it’s safer to take the route we know we can afford instead of the route that throws a 30 year mortgage on our heads.

So I’m going down my check-list, making sure I know exactly where to start on things. I have a few things to process in Paypal and then I’ll get back to work on other accounts. I know Dick has been looking for me, I just responded to his email. It’s just been a difficult weekend, I don’t like dropping off the face of the earth but I’ve been working non-stop on multiple accounts for the last few months and I really just needed a break. I spent quite a bit of time sleeping this weekend. My schedule has gone back to waking up around 1pm which isn’t that great but I’m sure tonight that will change. I’ll get myself back in bed by Midnight and then get back on track. It shouldn’t be too hard for me, right?

I’m noticing quite a bit of trouble keeping on track with the software I’ve been using to organize myself. I wanted to get away from a pen and paper so for quite some time I’ve been using Active Desktop and it’s to a point now where I absolutely can not stand it. I found another alarm clock software download that I thought was pretty cool. It’s called Say the Time, and it’s a personal time management utility for Windows. It’s for those in the home computing market, mainly. It allows users to create multiple customizable alarms and reminders. You can hear the time spoken aloud, you can create a virtual sticky note and even customize the look of the task bar clock. Naturally the only option I’m really going to use is the sticky notes but that beats having them all over my monitor, you know? I’m playing around with the 30 day trial, it’s only like $25 so I may consider buying it. As of right now I’m content with it, I’ll have to use it for a little bit longer before I make that leap.

Time to get back to work.
