Winding Down

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

I’ve been rather productive today. I didn’t actually get around to my laundry but I did manage to get the finishing touches on my desk, so I’m fully unpacked (took long enough…right?). Baby and I did some shopping this afternoon to get things settled for the weekend. A lot of vacationers are down here now, summer has basically started early, so it’s hard to do ANYTHING on the weekends, Route 1 is beyond packed from here to Ocean City. We loaded up on ground beef and chicken so I assume we’ll be barbecuing the entire weekend.

I’m slowly getting through all of my email, I do still have some to go through. A few of them are work related but I’ve been unable to read them yet. So if you’re coming here with the “Oh she can update but can’t read her email” attitude, chill out I’ll get to you soon. I think the only thing I haven’t done today is check myself in for drug treatment, lol.

I think I’m gonna get myself in gear on the rest of my email though. There are a few domain notifications that have to go out that need to be taken care of ASAP.

Executive Coaching

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

PPP Kay works for a complete moron. He bought the company a few years ago and it instantly went from a success to a pile of wood. He knows nothing about how to run a business, nor does he know how to handle employees. People have been fired for reasons as stupid as “They’re too smart for their position”. A girl was recently fired because she knew too much about what she was doing. Some people believe she tapped into something that the owner was doing and was fired because she knew too much about something that’s more than likely highly illegal. The real lesson here is, however, someone seriously needs to stand outside of this place and let the customers know that they’re never going to actually receive anything they order so it would be a smart idea to not even bother stepping foot into the building. Products have been on back order for the last 6 months and most of the vendors even have the company on HOLD because he hasn’t been able to pay the bill. Makes you wonder where the money is actually going, it sure as heck isn’t going to the employee’s considering most of them aren’t even getting their paychecks.

The thing he really needs is something called Executive Coaching, which should be important for any corporation. The Forte Institute is the global leader in the development and delivery of the strengths-based understanding of human personality as it relates to the personal understanding of interpersonal communications. I know it all seems like a lot of big words but their main goal is really team building programs which is very important for any corporation. It’s easier to run a tight-knit business if everyone is working on the same page. Training from The Forte Institute can really help you run your business and your employees with 100% ship-shape efficiency.

Wirefly Strikes Again!

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Many people go through Wirefly.com to get their cellphones. I don’t blame them either considering they’ve turned into one of the hottest resources on the internet for all of your mobile needs. They’ve got a new Top 10 list, it’s seasonal too considering it’s the Spring 2007 season. Their list includes everything from the Motorola to Samsung. I personally find the Motorola Razr to be the best phone out there but that’s because of the fact that I’ve been desperately eying this phone for the last couple of years. Even though I’m not on the phone very often, one day I WILL own this thing. The list they’ve put up is pretty extensive, and rightly so considering all the phones on there are pretty interesting, help them out by hitting Digg this story! because all hits are good hits and going through Digg is a huge thing these days. I just think it’s cool they came up with the Spring 2007 list. I hope they continue making lists like these every season, it’ll give people an excuse to drool over more technological goodness.

Borrowing Money

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Before things started to settle down for me, financially, I was seriously considering applying for a student loan to use towards college. The problem is that while I would only need to borrow around $7,000 I wouldn’t have anyone to co-sign the loan considering my off-the-books income and I no longer live anywhere near my father. I don’t think you can get away with cosigning a loan with someone who’s 5 hours away.

I know a few people who have actually gone through with the student loan process now they’re working on student loan consolidation programs because they’re bogged down with payments and fees that were just thrown on at the end of the agreement in very small print. After a studen graduates they’re often faced with the financial burden of dealing with student loan payments. If you miss even one payment it can seriously harm your credit. Consolidating student loans can be beneficial to students’ credit rating, but it’s important to note that not all federal student loan consolidation companies report their loans to all credit bureaus.

In the end, it’s not hard to come up with $7,000 and I wouldn’t be putting my credit at risk in order to do it. It would take me maybe 2 months at the rate that business is coming in these days. It’d be much easier to take the non-loan route for me.

Men and Cars!

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Baby has been working very hard on an up and coming social networking site. The guy he’s working for has written a book and is a marketing genius so baby is confident that this is going to be a successful venture for him. There are already a few advertisers in place and if everything goes smoothly, he’s eventually coming into quite a bit of money. With this, he’s considering buying a new car.

His current car has over 150,000 miles on it, he’s had quite a bit of work done to it to keeping it running but the other night it wouldn’t start and that had us a little scared into thinking we’d have to change some plans around and make a car the first priority. The thing about him, however, is if he does happen to get a new car he wants to keep the current one and modify it a little bit. It’s in desperate need of a paint-job, this I won’t deny but he also wants to put on a SPOILER (which I find to be extremely ugly on cars), he’d probably even go as far as throwing on a wood grain steering wheel which I’m also not too fond of, but that’s because I’m really a fan of factory defaults. I don’t understand how someone could spend a lot of money into car modification – then again, I’m not a man either and 90% of the time they take more pride in their cars than they do their own appearance – freaky right?

So while he was looking for car ideas, we came across yocar.com. They’ve got everything from wood dash kits to rear spoilers. I poked around the site for a little while and the cool thing is they’ve got video tutorials on how one would go about installing these products. I personally think if you’re going to do any modifications on a car, go to a professional but that’s based on the fact that Joe attempted to setup some kind of a velvet dash kit on his car and wound up destroying it. He was also known for taking all interior off the doors and kind of…leaving it there lol. So this of course is why I’m recommending that Baby see a professional but if he wants to take pride in his work, at least I know there’s going to be a video resource for him to reference back to.

Have you bid yet?

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Has anyone checked out Bid4Prizes.com? They’re actually pretty damn cool. You can enter to win cars, cash and other hot items just by submitted the lowest unique bid via cellphone or Bid4Prizes.com. The lowest unique bid for every prize starts out at one penny, but if more than one person bids a penny then that penny is no longer the lowest unique bid, two cents would now be the lowest. If more than one person bids for 2 cents, then it’s bumped to three cents – and so on, and so forth. The winning bid could be anything from one penny, to $1.07 to even $401.32, whomever has the lowest unique bid with absolutely no copy cats then you win the prize for that amount. The cool thing is, if you do happen to win the bid you don’t have to spend any money to win the prize. If you happen to win being the lowest unique bid then the prize is completely free. bid4prizes.com will even pay for the shipping. Note that state tax is different for everyone so you may have to pay taxes on your winnings but considering you’re getting ht item for free, I’d say being fair about it isn’t so wrong.

New Resource: Parenting Teens

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

PPPPPPHaving teenagers isn’t easy on any parent. The constant mood swings and unappreciative behavior towards everything is typical in daily life. I know a few mothers that spent a lot of time reading books on how to ‘fix’ their children and they’d then sit there and wonder why nothing ever worked. Proper education is a factor in anything but when it comes down to it, you raised the child so you should know at some point how to deal with your child. For those whom can’t figure it out – however – there are sites like parentingteens.com which offer you a series of resources and advice to get you through the day. One of their articles is about self esteem education. Self esteem is a pretty big problem for many teens, not many parents know how to deal with it. I know my parents didn’t. Then again, part of my self-esteem issues growing up was the fact that I never really had a mother around, but that’s besides the point.

For the parents that actually ARE there for their children, however, ParentingTeens.com focuses on a variety of problems but it’s primarily designed to help parents with troubled teens. It could be a valuable resource to help you get through the difficult times.

New Resource: ElectricLadyLand

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

I like when I come across new sites. While part of me doesn’t really care what celebrities do, finding resources that they also use is kind of interesting to me. I came across electricladyland.com, which sells everything from clothing to candles. They’re located in Arizona but based on reviews they have a lot of celebrity clients and carry couture brands. They mostly sell brands like True Religion and Rock & Republic Jeans. They’ve also got Tarina Tarantino Jewelry, which is pretty interesting looking. It’s primarily Hello Kitty and animal based costume jewelry but I want to assume that it’s good quality considering it’s all in the $90.00 and up range. You should check ’em out.

Give her…what?

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

PPP - BackgammonI’ve recently noted how backgammonmasters.com is now expanding to the Latin market, now they’re working on expanding to calebutaunts. As everyone knows, Paris Hilton will be going to jail soon. Typically this makes me very happy considering everything she’s done wrong and weaseled her way out of. Backgammon Masters wants to send her a backgammon board so that she’ll have something to do while she’s serving her time in jail. Part of me wonders if she’s going to a real jail or if she’s going to be set up in a cushy half-way house setup like Martha Stewart was but this is besides the point.

If she choses not to take any interest in her backgammon board, backgammonmasters.com is going to then auction off the board for charity. I say they’d probably have better luck handing it over to charity either way. I’m sure they can get her autograph on it, that may be the easier goal to reach. I do wish them luck on their quest but I’m sure she’d overlook them completely.

I really do like surfing around their site though. I’m not really into paying for online games but I’ve read through a lot of their things and have learned a few tricks of the trade that I wasn’t aware of before. I also find Jean-Claude to be rather hilarious. There’s two episodes that I know of, he’s too funny.

Psychics and Tarot Readings

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

I’ve done a lot of reading into the supernatural world. I’ve done a little research on Tarot and Psychic Readings and the more I read into it, the more I’m intrigued by it. Kay has seen a Psychic on more than one occasion and she strongly believes that there are powers out there that we don’t realize on a day-to-day basis. She believes that our lives are predetermined and that there are ghosts floating around her, mainly her mother. I have no doubt in my mind that she is because I’m almost certain that Joe is floating around me. There’s always that breeze or shooting star out of no where to ease my mind.

I came across lovepsychics.com.au which is a Australian Love Psychic. The site could use a little bit of work, a lot of work actually, but that’s just the designer in me talking. The real purpose of the site is to target you to their phone number. They cost $5 per minute and I assume if you truly believe that there are higher powers that can be tapped into it would be worth the cost. Try them out if you wish, maybe you’ll learn something. They also do Tarot readings, I believe.

ThePiggyBanker.com

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

There’s a site called thepiggybanker.com where they offer you the Highest CD Rates, the Best money market rates, savings, credit cards and bank promotions. One of their featured savings accounts is FNBO Direct because they offer a 6.00% APY Savings rate on all balances until September 28, 2007. It’s one of the highest rates available for both CD and savings accounts.

ThePiggyBanker.com is currently running a $50 blog giveaway. To enter, all you have to do is write a post about it. It’s really quite simple. Just visit their site for the best CD rates, savings accounts, money market, credit card deals and bank promotions. They’ve a pretty valuable resource – I spent quite some time surfing around the site to learn more about some credit cards and accounts they’ve featured in their articles – you should check them out.

It’s a shame.

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

A friend of mine recently announced that she was going to place herself into drug rehab. I know she’s been on kind of a downward spiral for a few months now but when you go to college and don’t know how to deal with things and are surrounded by drugs and booze it makes it difficult for you to stear away from it when you’ve never really been able to stand your ground. She’s always been easily influenced, something she openly admits to. It’s hard for her to not get addicted to things because she’s under the assumption that things can’t effect her no matter what she does. After almost over dosing on cocain a few weeks ago, she decided to check herself into a clinic. Being as she’s only 18, she realizes that she does have the rest of her life ahead of her and needs to move away from everything that’s a bad influence on her.

I’ve recommended StopYourAddiction.com to her, it’s a brand new 28 day drug treatment program located in Michigan. They treat addicts from across the country and I hope that no matter which place she happens to go – she gets the help she desperately needs.

Backgammon – Take 2!

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

PPPI know I’ve talked about them in the past but when I come across new and interesting news, I have to post about it.

A few months ago I spoke about backgammon masters, they’re an online game company that’s now expanding worldwide. They’ve now expanded to Latin American markets, which is pretty darn cool considering I’ve played backgammon online with a few friends in Central America, gotta love Yahoo – right? BackgammonMasters.com is the first-ever and only company to introduce an online version of a Spanish dice game, Perudo. Perudo is kind of like a guessing game and a version of it’s even been featured in Pirates of The Caribbean 2. This game can be played by two or more players and, basically, consists in guessing how many dice, placed under cups, there are on the table showing a certain number. The last player having a die is the winner. They’ve added this in addition to their online poker and backgammon games. They’ve opened a brand in Central America after studying and listening to the demands of Latin Audiences.

I’m sure you remember me talking about them in the past, they’ve got a mascot named Jean-Claude, remember? He was that super cool tiger who’s now into his third or fourth episode, you can find that on backgammonmasters.com as well – check that out, he’s rather amusing.

NEW CD!

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

The Police! PPP I know that I pay post quite a bit but this is an opportunity that I just about fell out of my chair for when I found it. The Police have announced that they’re going on a new WORLD WIDE TOUR! I don’t know about you but I grew up enjoying The Police. Both of my parents were huge fans so their music was always on in the background and I probably know the words to every song they’ve ever done. So when I found out that they have a new police cd out, I just about peed in excitement – yes, I’ll admit that openly.

There’s a track listing for all of the songs and I have to say that I’m rather excited about it, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Disk #1 has my absolute favorite song Roxanne, and Disk #2 has “Every Breath You Take” which is the first song I ever learned how to play on the piano. Getting my hands on this police cd is something that WILL happen as soon as possible.

I used to get picked on quite a bit for being a fan of The Police, it’s hard not to be a fan of their music. Hell, how many other artists have covered their music over the last 20 years? They’re celebrating their 30th anniversary of their recording debut with their first double-disc CD ‘Best of’ collection titled The Police (A&M/UMe) which is going to be released on June 5, 2007. I’m tempted to put in for a pre-order. They started in 1977 and now 30 years later they’re still just as amazing, why wouldn’t I want the album?

The Track Listing:

Disc: 1
1. Fallout
2. Can’t Stand Losing You
3. Next to You
4. Roxanne
5. Truth Hits Everybody
6. Hole in My Life
7. So Lonely
8. Message in a Bottle
9. Reggatta de Blanc
10. Bring on the Night
11. Walking on the Moon
12. Don’t Stand So Close to Me
13. Driven to Tears
14. Canary in a Coalmine

Disc: 2
1. Do Do Do de da da Da
2. Voices Inside My Head
3. Invisible Sun
4. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
5. Spirits in the Material World
6. Demolition Man
7. Every Breath You Take
8. Synchronicity I
9. Wrapped Around Your Finger
10. Walking in Your Footsteps
11. Synchronicity II
12. King of Pain
13. Murder by Numbers
14. Tea in the Sahara

How could you NOT want it?

I looked over their Tour list and was disappointed to find out that they’re completely sold out for Madison Square Garden in New York BUT there’s still some available for Baltimore, MD and that’s only about a 2 hour drive from where I am. :giddy:

Gimme a bag!

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I’ve spent many years using bag vacuums that switching to bagless has been a little bit strange for me. I’ve been using a Dyson for the last few months and I have to say it’s a little bit more of a hassle than it’s worth. For a machine that supposedly doesn’t lose suction, it doesn’t really pick up anything either.

I came across bestvacuum.com which is an authorized dealer of Miele vacuum cleaners and is also a Dyson specialist. I did some surfing around their site and found that there’s a lot more than just vacuums to look through. They’ve got everything from floor scrubbers to a Blueair air purifier. I didn’t want to get side-tracked though.

I went directly to the Dyson section. The one we have is the DC07 Animal which is supposed to be the most powerful upright for pet hair and considering there are 3 dogs in the house, that seems reasonable. It’s not supposed to lose suction – but it has. It’s supposed to have ‘tough construction’ but it was very easily dented and dinged from the usage around the house. Not sure if I’d recommend a Dyson to anyone, honestly.

CRM Software

Friday, May 25th, 2007

As someone who runs a business I understand the importance on keeping in touch with customers. Email is great and all but sometimes talking to someone one-on-one through programs like AIM or Yahoo tend to make things a bit easier. That’s great for support but when it comes to sales it’s a completely different situation.

As a designer, I go through approximately 40 emails a week on price quotes. I always wondered how previous bosses were able to keep track of everything from email to phone conversations regarding each individual client, and their client list was obviously a lot larger than mine at the time. I was unaware of the fact that they were using lead management software. Software like AIMpromote has helped users keep track of their clients from the very first “Request a Quote” email. Quotes are submitted to the database with the push of a button and even if these are phone based clients, any company sales member can access the database to submit the new information. It’s a pretty cool program, one that I may actually consider in the future if things ever take off a bit more.
