Fathers Day Fast Approaching

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

With Fathers Day fast approaching, I’m confused as to what I’m going to get him. Sure, there’s always the typical Fathers Day Baskets but I’ve done those so many times that I feel sort of repetitive with it. Another thing that needs to be factored in is my fathers BIRTHDAY is the following Tuesday so I either need to do a large gift that will cover both in one shot or two little gifts, either way I’m stuck for ideas.

I came across gourmetgiftbaskets.com not too long ago and while I like what they have to offer, I don’t know if my father actually would. Now he appreciates everything, don’t get me wrong, he’s on a diet at the moment though so I’m not sure if sweets are really the way to go for me. I know he’s into meats and cheeses but considering his diet, not sure he’d take to it quite well either. I certainly couldn’t get him any candy, though he’s a fan of trail mix at the moment considering he’s eating it all in moderation. He’s lost about 15-20lbs and is starting to get himself back towards his college weight, that seems like so long ago but he was happier back then, so were his back, neck, shoulders and legs.

I did find a lot of their other baskets to be rather interesting though. They’ve got these cool beer baskets with all different kinds of goodies in there. There are also theme baskets and any other kind of basket that you can really think of. They’re a bit on the pricey side, then again the one I figured would be perfect for dad is in the $150 range and that’s just my personal taste. They also have baskets in the $70 range and considering they overload them with tons of nifty gifts, it’s worth the price. I found a couple in there for Baby but we’ve got other plans for our anniversary anyway, no reason to spend all the money on a gift basket containing food he’d probably never touch (very, very picky eater), we’ll stick to our vacation plans.

At the end of the month I’m going up to New York to visit dad and my sister for their birthdays. I guess I should start getting some baskets together now, shouldn’t I?

Student Loans, Debt, Valuable Money Articles

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

With the new flow of money coming in, I’m confident that I’ll be able to work towards getting a student loan to get myself into school. I’ve been doing a lot of research on a few schools and after talking to a representative from AIUOnline.edu, I’m confident that they’re the school I’ll be working towards attending. They cost about $32,000 for the entire course, this will give me a bachelors degree in web design, which is exactly what I was looking for. Sean was going to help me look into grants and scholarships, even financial aid considering I’m emancipated from my father at this point in time. The one I think will actually WORK is a student loan, because they know if money is lent they’re getting it back. While scholarships, grants and financial aid don’t require being paid back – I know that they’ll give almost anyone with a co-signer a student loan so they can overcharge you with interest rates.

Worse case scenario, I’ll have to pay off a student loan with a debt consolidation loan but this is based on whether or not business maintains the flow it is at the moment. There are a few aspects of this that kind of freak me out though. After doing some surfing around thriftyscot.co.uk, I came across a list of articles about loans, credit cards, mortgages and other money related things. There were a few that stood out for me; The real cost of borrowing is measured in fear. Another article that stood out was in regards to student loans, naturally I was looking for one about it considering what’s on my mind right now. It’s respectively titled The mechanics of a student loan. There are a lot of money based articles listed on thriftyscot.co.uk, I’d seriously recommend it to anyone.

Movies: 1408

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

PPPAnyone who knows me knows that I do truly believe in the supernatural. I know for a fact that Joe is still floating around me. I’ve listed numerous times that he’s given me shooting stars, a breeze and many other things that have brought a sense of comfort to me after his death. I know that whenever I need him there for support, he is. And while I can’t personally speak to him, he does still give me signs to let me know when he’s around and listening to me.

Just recently I came across a commercial for 1408 Movie. It’s starring John Cusack (whom I love) and it’s pretty darn interesting based on what I’ve read about it.

PPPBased on the short Stephen King horror story of the same name, 1408 surrounds supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two hit books focusing on supernatural phenomena. As research for his latest book, Enslin is determined to check out the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room. With the intention that 1408 is just a myth perpetuated by stories and rumor that Enslin has collected for his past works. However, hotel manager Mr. Olin has strong objections to Enslin’s stay and only warns him of possible danger to come. But Enslin is determined to go through and convinced that the horrific past of 1408 is just mere coincidence and a myth. But what Mike Enslin is about to experience is no myth, as 1408 truly is a room where the guests don’t check out by noon.

And below is a quick trailer of 1408 Movie if you’re interested in the visual aspect of it. Sometimes reading the text for it takes away from the movie itself, even if it is based on a book of course…heh.

Drug Rehabilitation Network

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

I recently came across a Drug Rehabilitation website that housed some pretty valuable information. drugrehabilitationnetwork.com is probably the most comprehensive drug rehab referral site of it’s kind. They don’t offer you a facility to park yourself at for 30 days, they give you an honest review of OTHER programs/centers so that you can compare them based on your needs, or your loved ones needs naturally. They’re considered to be one of the best resources on the internet for drug rehabilitation and after looking through their site, I have to agree.

They do not accept money from their advertisers which is why they can give you an honest assessment of each drug/alcohol rehab and treatment center they have listed in their database. Registration for this site is free. Once you register you can then go through their links database to other rehabilitation resources on the Internet. For someone just getting out of rehab you can consider this part of your 12-step program where you’re continuing to work on your recovery. Anyone knows that it’s a long and windy road when you’re recovering and thanks to resources like these, it more than likely isn’t going to be such a bumpy one.

Mashing Media

Monday, June 4th, 2007

PPPThe News Room provides access to hundreds of thousands of fully licensed news stories that can be published on your site. Mashing content from major content providers such as Associated Press, Reuters, and Agence France-Press. If you’re a website publisher or blogger who wants to earn some money embedding quality news on your site, join thenewsroom.com and start embedding a video or two into your posts.

When you embed a news story or news feed onto your website you can instantly begin earning revenue. You earn a share of the advertising each time this news is viewed on your site. You can earn up to $4 per thousand impressions. You also earn money when someone ‘mashes’ content from your site and it’s viewed on theirs. Take advantage of this program by mashing these videos into your posts and encouraging your friends to do the same. In addition to mashing for cash, users of thenewsroom.com can earn prizes from digital cameras to a new car. If you’re interested in seeing just how it works, price wise, please head over to the payment chart.

This program is 100% free for you to use, just create an account, and begin looking through the database. I found myself going towards the Business and Health sections because that’s typically what interests me the most. I found the following video and I have to say, it’s pretty darn interesting.

So if you’re interested in tapping into high quality news for free, thenewsroom.com is the way to go.

Website Optimization Services

Monday, June 4th, 2007

After a previous post about website optimization, I kind of figured that I needed to clear a few things up. I’m not telling you to go out and spend $5,000 to have someone plug keywords into your page and submit your site into search engines. There are many other resources out there that are a lot cheaper if you really feel as though an outside website optimization company can help you. There’s a company that goes by submitawebsite.com where they help you with all of your website optimization services needs.

The reason I actually like this company is because they actually have the rankings that you would expect from an optimization company. They currently rank with a PR6 but with the way Google is changing things around I would assume their rank would be higher over time. They also have a fairly low alexa rank which is great as well. I did a quick search with a few of their keywords and they showed up in the top two spots which is always a great thing. It makes me feel confident to know that they will actually give you what they say they will. That’s always important.

Payday Loans

Monday, June 4th, 2007

I’m sure I’ve spoken about them before but it’s good to know that Payday cash advance loans are easy to come by when you’re in a jam for paying your bills and you don’t quite have enough in the bank at the moment to cover it. There’s always the chance that your paycheck may not clear in time for you to cover your bills. There’s also the chance that an emergency will show up out of no where, as one did last night for me with Princess, and you’re going to need money for vet bills or even a hospital visit because of an accident. Resources like secureloanconsolidation.com is always a great resource to keep in your bookmarks. They’re quick, easy and painless and more than likely the loan will be in your bank account within 24 hours of the submission, sometimes even sooner. Just because you’re in a jam doesn’t mean that you can’t get the resources you need to fix them.

Breaking the law…

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

PPPPPPI know it’s old news by now but as most of you know, Lindsay Lohan has been arrested for DUI and possession, makes me giggle considering she’s supposed to be a ‘role model for younger girls’. Then people wonder why the future of America is in the hands of idiots, even beyond anything Bush could do. While poking around looking for more information on the subject, I came across Southern California Criminal & DUI Attorneys. Top 5% U.S. Law Firm. Former L.A. Prosecutors. – maybe someone should send these guys over to talk to Lindsay – eh? I kind of like looking around law sites but I think that’s because I’ve designed about 15 of them in the last two years, they spend big bucks getting their name out their on the internet and that’s just another reason why I love having lawyers around. I’ve got a few of them in the family, oddly enough two of them are divorce attorneys, it made the process for my parents very easy, heh.

But yea, head over to keglawyers.com and learn a thing or two that you probably never would have figured out on your own.

Future Vacation Plans

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Baby is currently working on a site for a guy that lives out in California. I’m not sure where he lives exactly but I know with popular places like Hollywood, Los Angeles, San Diego, Silicon Valley and San Francisco, you’re bound to find something of interest. With the site he’s working on, I know that eventually we’re going to be heading out to California so part of me wonders how well that’s going to go over.

I do know that once this site launches he’s bound to come into a decent amount of money and I know that we’re planning on doing quite a bit of traveling with it, after we get a house and other things taken care of like paying off the credit cards and what not. He wants to go to California which is fine because that’s where his boss is. I, on the other hand, think that if I’m going to travel I want to go somewhere with a bit more history like Rome or London. I’ve always been itching to go to Europe, it’s going to continue to be a life-long dream for me though, I know it for sure.

CRM Software

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Not too long ago I discussed a program called crm software which is a lead management software for businesses. The software can be found on aimpromote.com. I’d recommend it to anyone running a business with a lot of clients coming in on a regular basis. My previous boss used it to keep track of all of the potential clients, including the ones that he was already working with. Sometimes you can only use up so much notebook space to keep track of everything, it’s good to have a program on your computer that will take care of it for you.

If you have 15 or 500 users, this program will be easy for you to use. It doesn’t require you to download anything, everything is stored under your user name on aimpromote.com, it helps for those checking on leads when they aren’t at their regular computer. There’s no need for a thumb drive, just internet access. I’d say that’s a fairly nifty idea, wouldn’t you?

Online Schooling – Capella University

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

I’ve spoken about Capella University in the past and quite a few people have asked me questions about them. I’ve dealt with quite a few internet based school and I fully understand how beneficial online courses can be. They’re a great resource for high school and college students, they’re also an excellent resource for people who are looking to further their career or even those just interested in learning a new certification program.

SEO Effect Software

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

If you’re looking to drive more customers to your business, seoeffect.com has created a Search engine optimization SEO software. SEO Effect draws enormous attention. You’ll attract more visitors, more interest, more conversion, more business, and more sales. If you can handle the attention than this is the script for you.

They offer a free trial, I signed up and created a free account. Their prices range from $69 to $269. In wanting to learn more about the program I signed up for, I went to load the free account section and found myself looking at a 404 page. The rest of their navigation seems to work but it would be nice to know what the free account looks like. I had a little bit of trouble navigating around their database. At this point I’m unsure if anything is actually being done with my site.

To get past all of that, however, I found myself looking at the SEO Glossary. They list a long page of commonly used words on the internet in regards to search engines and other programs that webmasters use on a regular basis. Another option that they want you to look into is handbook search engine optimization however, the site isn’t in English so I doubt it would be much help to anyone.

While the site is fairly easy on the eyes and the navigation is standard in one place, I’m not overly confident that this company could help me as far as marketing is concerned. I’m sure they have a great idea and maybe their clients have even had some success in the past but I don’t personally see the point in spending $269 a year promising me more ‘attention’ when they claim to be professionals at this and are only a PR5 themselves. I was already a PR5 before I changed my website title. Now I’m just waiting for things to push back up again. I don’t believe this company will do that for me but maybe someone else will have some luck.

Review: Discount Safety Gear

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

When asked to review a site, typically the first thing I look towards is site design. Is the template setup in a way that’s easy to read. Is the site easy to navigate through. Do the colors blend well together and don’t come off as blinding. Then I begin to poke through the actual content of a site. Typically some will say that the content is more important than the layout. To some degree this is true but 90% of the time if you load a site and it’s close to impossible to read anything then naturally you’re not going to stay there for very long, no matter what the resource.

I was asked to write a review on discountsafetygear.com. They offer everything from Hard Hats to Safety Goggles. The bulk of their website is setup in .html format and as someone who uses PHP exclusively I don’t quite understand the reason behind it but I’m not here to look at how the webmaster coded it, but what the final outcome is.

Visually the site is rather appealing. With the size of the text and the initial format of the page I can tell that the owners took Web 2.0 into consideration. It’s very easy to navigate through the page as well. The information listed on the sidebar is easy to read and easy on the eyes as well. I like their New Product section, I’m a sucker for new and interesting gear. There are a few sections where there’s the black and white construction tape and while I can understand the reason behind it, on the sidebar behind the title text there really isn’t much need for it. It makes it a little it hard to read but that could also just be my monitor. By the looks of it the site is fairly CSS heavy but it’s also designed with tables and that honestly doesn’t make much sense to me. I say switch completely to divs, search engines seem to like that a little better.

Considering Baby is prone to some form of self-damage (walking, bending, whichever) I naturally found myself searching through the First Aid Kits. The Home and Personal kits seemed interesting but for some reason I was drawn to the construction section. This is probably because I grew up in a family full of construction workers and knowing the contents of these kits by heart, I kind of wanted to see what an un-used one looked like – if this makes any sense of course. The kit that interests me the most is naturally going to be the most expensive – but this is my taste. I know in regards to safety that it’s important to have everything you’d ever need, even if it’s things you don’t think you’d need. This, of course, is based on the fact that my mother was assistant chief of EMS and always had a bag filled with things.

All in all it’s a fairly decent site and a great resource for safety gear that I’d recommend to anyone, no matter what you happen to be looking for.

Flea Market Fun

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Tomorrow we’re all heading up to Laurel because there’s some flea market and when I go to places like that I like to check out the jewelry, you can typically get some fairly decent deals on anything that you buy considering the vendors are either getting their items at cost or they gave up on having a yard sale and it’s just items that they’ve got sitting in their house that they’re looking to get rid of. Ebay is really considered to be the flea market of the internet, if you think about it. The one thing I always make a point of doing before going to a flea market or bidding on something online is the current gold price because it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into when buying gold based pieces.

I don’t think I’m going to be bringing any money up with me though. I’m sure that I’ll come across something but knowing my spending habits around funky looking things and the fact that my father’s birthday is coming up, I’m going to make it a point to not go crazy and just keep the money in the bank. That’s going to be hard for me but even just spending the day looking around a 15 acre lot, I’m pretty sure that I’ll be too tired to even bother with whipping out some cash.

Search Marketing in Austin

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Any webmaster would know the importance of using marketing to help their business. Sure, word of mouth is always a great deal but that only covers a limited number of people. By manipulating your website code you can get yourself indexed on Google, Yahoo, MSN and other major search engines to bring in some visitors to your site. This isn’t the only way to get your business out there though.

There’s a company named Apogee Search, Search Marketing in Austin, one of the 25 largest Search Engine Marketing firms in the world. It was founded by early Internet pioneers and McKinsey & Co. alumni. THei focus on a variety of proven online marketing methods that include paid search, natural search, affiliate marketing, and even pay-per-call. All of their solutions are designed to drive qualified, targeted visitors to B2B and B2C websites for more leads, customers, revenues and profits. Anyone with a business should consider looking into them.

Lapband Surgery

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Before I started on my diet I considered many different techniques to effective weight loss. I even considered lap band surgery until I realized how much is involved with it. Surfing through the internet you come across many things that can be a valuable resource for anyone. Unfortunately sometimes the most valuable information is never really well known because people name files and sites wrong so a google search won’t pick it up. I got lucky with this one though.

I came across Lap Band Surgeon Mexico which is a website that has many resources for this surgery. The thing I like about it is they tell you everything you need to know about finding a surgeon. They teach you how to go through their doctoral background, reading through testimonials, asking around, talking to previous clients and many other resources that most people may not look into when they go to get the surgery themselves. There‚Äôs even an FAQ to cover all of your questions. There‚Äôs a body mass index calculator but it just gives you an estimated answer, I‚Äôd assume. I plugged my statistics into it and I think it’s saying that 40% of me is fat which makes no sense considering all of the muscle I have in my arms and legs. I admit that my tummy is round but seriously now, 40%?

They personally do surgeries themselves but since they have the understanding that not everyone reading their site is going to truck it to Mexico, they offer you the resources you need in order to get yourself to a surgeon ‚Äì safely. There’s even a quick checklist of questions that you need to ask your doctor.

Anyone looking for valuable information about this subject, head over to mylapbandsurgery.com. You can even call them for more information. Their numbers are 866.309.0036 toll free for US callers only. Direct phone is 386.206.9358. I assume direct phone is connected to those living in Mexico. While I doubt you’d travel all the way to Mexico, you can at least use their site for Q∓A.
