My gut instinct was right…

iceblastSo I just got off the phone with my service manager, he said that there have been some issues with two of the servers overheating and he wound up having to pull out the new dry ice machine in order to get things back up and running. I actually had a good two hour long conversation about how this is beneficial to the longevity of the server and all that jazz. Basically, the newbie in the building had no idea on what he was doing and let a few of the servers go untouched for awhile and since they weren’t properly being maintained, I personally almost had $5,000 worth of clients with no websites because of hardware failure from overheating. Yes, everything is backed up but even the back-up was looking a little grimy so John decided it was time to let the lil weenie go. Peace out weenie!

He got everything all nicely cleaned up so everything is now back up and running and I’m surfing the internet to figure out why exactly this dry ice stuff makes a difference, I always assumed it had something to do with dust buildup, in which case it made sense to have a few areas with air condensers, but this is supposedly the more beneficial solution. Google brought me over to icetechworld.com who has a fairly decent sized site informing everyone of the pros of utilizing ice blasting. I honestly thought it would wind up being too harsh on the system due to excess build up of water but it’s more of a ‘vapor’ effect so I don’t have to worry about something carrying over, and cleans just as effectively as someone going in there with some horrible chemical that will corrode the systems over time. You can view a little more information on them if you click here.

For now, I’m happy that things are back on track and clients don’t have to worry about any downtime. I’m just annoyed that it even got to that point. I’m going to have to think long and hard about allowing newbies anywhere near my systems. I’d lose way too much money every month if I didn’t have the right ducks in a row to keep everything up and running as smoothly as it is.

Can’t handle it anymore.

Last year I picked up a cheap office chair, well it was expensive but it was cheaply made and it’s caused nothing but problems. I think the only chair that’s ever been super comfortable for me was a discount chair that I picked up from a local store, it only cost me $40 and it lasted 4 years and never leaned. The problem I’m having now is my $200 chair is leaning terribly to the left and it’s completely throwing off my back. I don’t know why considering it was very rarely used after it was purchased. My back was so bad that I wound up working from bed anyway. So figure 2 months of the chair just sitting there really shouldn’t have caused it to lean as badly as it is.

So fast-forward to six months later and it being moved from NY to DE – it’s worse than it was! Maybe the excessive bumps along the NJ Turnpike completely did it in, who knows. I just know that I’ve got myself set up in the kitchen just so I can sit up properly for excessive amounts of time without having to worry about my back killing me from sitting in front of Photoshop & Dreamweaver all day long.

So I decided to take a break and see if I could pick up a new chair somewhere. I don’t want to pay a high price for something that’s just going to break, so of course I’m leaning more towards a discount chair just to save a little money. Low and behold I came across chairhero.com, and of course I found Sean’s old $300 chair for $180 on this site so that got me to look through things a little more and it’s safe to say I’m going to have to continue looking through their site until I can find a new one for myself. Something tells me with the way things have been going I’ll probably be purchasing one by the end of the month anyway. I’m sure there’s quite a few of you having the same problem, we know that when you pick one up from some office retail store there’s always going to be some major design flaw with it, you can see products here to find the one that’s right for you.

They could be 100% on the ball here, after picking up a new chair I might refer to them as Hero’s by default.

Taking a Crash Course in Advertising

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Since business has slowed down, Sean and I have been looking into alternative methods to bring in some money. Obviously the standard business cards don’t always do the trick – no matter how many we wind up handing out over the course of the week when we venture out into the real world. I was thinking of having some type of an 8×10 sheet printed up so I could leave them on the pin boards at local markets in hopes that someone would pull the little tab off looking for help. But in all actuality, who really advertises that way anymore? And actually brings in some kind of a profit from it? I’m talking more for ‘business’ not the local babysitter who can only handle up to two children at a time. I’m talking taking our business into the “now” where we’re out of our own home and into an office environment with multiple people working in the office and not just outsource/contracts floating around the world (as we have now)

So, since I have some pretty big dreams I’ve obviously been with the “Go Big or Go Home” mentality and was thinking forget the business cards and the pull tabs – how about some type of a poster, heck even a billboard? So I googled custom poster printing and came across shortrunposters.com, not only do they do custom poster printing but they have the ability to size and do whatever you please with your own images. So if I were to take the logo off my business cards and then put in all of the proper information I could then take my custom poster and turn it into the posters you see on the windows at bus stops (lord knows people sit there long enough – they’re bound to read something, right?) . I also thought if I come up with something big enough in the future I can have it as a custom decor for the inside of the future AGN office. You can see products here, they range from smaller printing to larger printing.

I think even someone who aren’t in the business world could benefit from their services, based on the fact that a lot of my readers do have children and I know how soccer moms love to one-up each other, so of course having custom poster printing for your kids science project or activity would make everyone else know that you pulled out the big guns for your kids benefit. I think even teachers could benefit if there were a series of rules/regulations they have in their classrooms so that they can design it however they want and just send it off to the printer.

I don’t know, I’ve got quite a few ideas going through my head right now – I just know that it’s a site that is now permanently bookmarked on my end and will be utilized for my design business (and hey, maybe even kids projects – who knows what the future holds for me there). I already sent the link over to my mom ’cause she’s always doing some big flyer work for the many things she’s running throughout the course of the year.

Commercials and what not.

Friday, August 10th, 2007

I don’t spend a lot of time watching television but when I do get around to it you’re typically drawn to commercials considering the TV shows themselves aren’t always that great. In most commercials there are celebrities doing the voice overs so when you hear someone that’s voice isn’t very well known you kind of wonder how/why they were the ones chosen for the role.

I know that there are try-outs for just about everything. I don’t personally consider someone walking around in the background on some TV show to be an actor but that’s because I figure an actor is supposed to act, not just wonder around aimlessly – you know? I don’t really consider those doing the voice overs to be actors either, there are plenty of people that I personally know and can name off the top of my head with unique enough voices to make a commercial either very amusing or even very serious. I didn’t think that there were people who actually ran voice over talent agencies on top of that.

Kind of makes me wonder if I should call up Katie and tell her to get involved. She has a very nasal Fran Drescher kind of a voice and the second you hear her speak, even if you aren’t facing her, you instantly know it’s her and some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth is just too amusing for words.

I looked into this a bit further though and was brought to dancapone.com, they’re a talent agency I assume. I listened to a few of the demos and it’s radio quality stuff but at least it’s professional. I’ve listened to some of the local radio stations (online and off) and they all suck with their ‘commercials’ they should call up this guy and get a real voice over artist to do the work for them. I think my favorite voice over guy is the one who does the movie introductions but there’s actually a comedian that sounds just like him that’s always fascinated me, I’m unsure of what his name is though. I’m sure I’ll figure it out sooner or later.

A business can rent too!

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Any successful business owner knows that, at some point, you’re going to have to tap into a computer rental or two depending on the needs of your company. A typically common one is a Mac Pro rental because so many companies are using Mac’s these days, it’s unreal. I’m not overly happy with Apple at the moment because they’ve decided to discontinue the iMac 17″ and redo the 20″ and 24″ with some kind of a brushed aluminum kind of setup. Why can’t they just leave well-enough alone, right?

Moving right along…

ComputerRentals.com is a great resource to keep around when you’re in desperate need for a computer. They’re currently the leading provider of short term computer and laptop rentals for businesses nationwide. They help companies at trade shows, ones who need temporary computers for short term projects and they’ll even equip offices with all of your computer needs after a disaster (hurricane, flood, tornado, earthquake, fire, etc.) They’ll supply you everything you need in order for you to get back up and running 100% until you can stand on your own two feet with out them. I’d recommend the MacBook Pro rental but that’s because I’m a sucker for anything Mac these days.

Did anyone actually get Windows based Safari working for them? Maybe I’ll rent from them just so I can actually get my hands on a mac long enough to know if I want to drop $1500 on a 20″ iMac in the future.

Mesosilver is TRUE Colloidal Silver

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Important Note: When being asked to review a website, paid or not, I treat it as though I’ve just come across the site on Google and then give my opinion from there. Price tags do not, by any means, sway my opinion on a sponsored entry. This is something I would like for the sponsor to keep in mind. Through me, you will receive my 100% honest opinion on your product and I remind you that this is what you’ve asked for.

This review is for a website in dedication to colloidal silver.

I found it rather hard to figure out just what to write on this review of colloidal silver. I’ve also found it rather hard to figure out what IS colloidal silver exactly. The website gives you a break down, yes, but unless you’re really into medicines, it’s kind of hard to piece it all together. All I could really get from it is that it’s a natural mineral supplement and it’s a non-toxic substance that does not interact or interfere with any other medications. It also goes on to say that it will not cause argyria, which is a discoloration of the skin caused by other forms of silver. It’s a completely tasteless liquid, kind of like water, and it has an infinite shelf life.

All of that information aside, what does this stuff really do for you? Based on an outside source I’ve come to find out that colloid silver has antimicrobial properties and was, in the past, used on external wounds and burns to prevent infection. Some alternative-health practitioners claim that it is a beneficial nutritional supplement. Others claim that it is a powerful antibiotic as well.

Further information has shown me that the FDA has banned over-the-counter sales in the US of any product claiming to have therapeutic value, health benefits or making any medical claims, unless it is a drug. Despite colloidal silvers earlier history as a drug, the product now has the status of a dietary supplement in the US and can not claim to cure diseases only that they support healthy functioning.

I’m not sure I would recommend this product unless someone knew exactly what they were getting out of it.

Alcohol Rehabilitation

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

What some of you may or may not remember about me is that up until September of last year, I had the luxury of living with an alcoholic who knew nothing more than random excuses to come up with in order to keep herself out of Alcohol Rehab.

She was a difficult person to get along with. I haven’t spoken to her in almost a year and I’m unsure if she’s even still alive at this point considering the drugs she was taking as well. I never liked any of her friends because they all came across as boozers as well. I try, very hard, to give people the benefit of the doubt but when you’re a vicious person who is beyond help – it’s hard to get to that point of understanding.

Many people can be effected by just one person in their lives being an alcoholic, I felt horrible for her children because they were the ones who had to grow up sooner than they should have. Her teenage daughter was more responsible than her and she was cut absolutely no slack in the process. She was going through AA meetings but hitting up a bar afterwards kind of made no sense to anyone.

I came across alcohol-rehab.mobi but unfortunately it was just too late for me. It’s a blog site that shares stories, experiences and knowledge on alcohol addiction. I would have loved to get her to this website but when you’re too far gone for change, I guess there’s no need to help.

I’m sure you’re sitting there thinking that I’m heartless, that’s really not the case. I spent years attempting to help her but none of my efforts, no matter how hard I pushed, really did any good. You can only help someone who’s willing to meet you half way – she wasn’t one to meet you anywhere, unfortunately.

Prescription Drug Addiction

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

I’ve spoken about substance abuse for quite some time now, many of you know this. One subject that I haven’t touched on yet was Prescription Drug Addiction. I strongly believe, while many people say otherwise, that my friend Diana passing away a few years ago was based on her addiction to prescription drugs. She was on anti-depressants and muscle relaxers for many years after an accident that she’d had when she was 14 years old. Her and her boyfriend at the time came face-to-face with a mac truck, she was the only surviver. Naturally this put her through a horrible depression, watching someone you love die in front of you because of a careless driver is nothing anyone should go through.

She suffered with extreme back pain, shoulder problems from where the seatbelt jerked her back and a cracked rib from the air-bag. She was a very thin girl, ate like a pig but never gained an ounce kind of skinny. The meds she was later placed on only aided to further weight loss. She’d never had body issues before, but at the rate that her body was shrinking, you wouldn’t have known it. For years after this accident, everyone who knew her, went out of their way to insure that she was going to get the help she needed. She went to see counselors but with her insurance plan all they were really doing was throwing more pills at her and calling it a day. We did finally get her into a detox clinic but by then, the damage had already been done. Three days after her release from the clinic, she over-dosed on an entire bottle of muscle relaxers and Paxil.

She’s been missed for many years, her mother obviously taking it the hardest because she tried everything she could to insure that her daughter was getting the help she so desperately needed. It’s just a shame that no matter how hard you try, she was just too far gone for the help.

Travel Plans: Kailua, Hawaii

Monday, June 25th, 2007

I’m sure I’ve noted it before but I’ve been looking a little bit further into the Hawaiian Beach Rentals that I’ve come across over the last few days. I found a set of houses for rent through a Kailua home rental resource and I have to say, I’m really very interested in this. The homes here are really pretty and they have such a spectacular view there’s no possible way that I could pass these opportunities over. The bulk of the listings I’ve come across are based on houses in only the $400 range that are less than a block from the beach. This means, and I’m almost certain, that at least one section of the house will actually OVERLOOK the beach. I could probably live there forever. I have no doubt in my mind about that.

Hawaii I managed to pull one of the houses off the website, this is the porch of one of the homes I was the most interested in. Now, these are only rentals but if I had the opportunity to buy, you better believe I’ll be there faster than I knew what hit me. This particular rental is a 4 bedroom home that can comfortably house 10 guests and it’s less than one block away from the beach. There are air conditioners in three of the four rooms, 3 queen beds, 2 twin beds and one sofa bed. There’s also 3 full bathrooms, high speed internet and a full kitchen. For someone spending only $575 a night, you have to admit that it’s not a bad deal at all. Figure you do actually go up with the 10 people, that’s only 57 per person, that’s less than the one room grimy hotel up the block that tourists are currently paying $75 a night for… I’d say this would be the place to go!

I’d love to live here!

Hawiian Beach Rentals - Cove For many years I’ve wondered just what it would take for me to get to Hawaii. I believe the entire state is gorgeous and couldn’t understand why people could find frustration with the palm trees, clean sandy beaches and gorgeous blue water, minus the fact that a few sun-burns are forming at this very moment. For many years I’ve been interested in learning more about Hawaiian Beach Rentals because I would truly love to spend some much needed R&R on their gorgeous chunk of land. The homes are beautiful, the cultures down there are a whole mix of beauty that only locals can seem to understand and even from there.

As you can tell by the image above, the place is nothing more than spectacular, with a view like this – how could you NOT find something to love about Hawaii. I looked into some pricing on the big island hawaii luxury homes and while I find them to be a tad bit on the expensive side, I also know that if I did actually have that kind of money, I’d be there in a heart beat.

So you tell me, if you had the money to live in Hawaii and were only basing it on the image above – would you?

Cutting Edge Technology

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I spend a lot of time surfing through technology based websites. I typically do it so that I can keep in touch on what’s hot and what’s not. I look up the specifications on computer parts, televisions and many other things that I would love to have. The cool thing about some of these companies, like ComputerRentals.com, is that they offer cutting edge technology for RENT.

I’ve recently started working for someone who spends a lot of time at trade shows, conventions and other events and he’s actually noted that some of the technology they have there is fairly impressive. What he may not realize, sorry Bill, is that most of these places actually rent the technology specifically for these shows. So those beautiful screen’s you’re looking at are more than likely just plasma rentals, maybe even going as far as getting themselves a touchscreen LCD monitor rental and lets not to mention the uber-hot technology of going with a 5000 lumen projector rental. So in all actuality, these impressive items that we drool over have been rented from a company like ComputerRentals.com. They deliver nationwide and they’re the industry leader in technology for business based rentals. I just hope one day they help out us small-business owners with a test-plasma for the small office that a hubby and wife are sharing…hah.

What is Colloidal Silver?

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

When I come across new and fairly-interesting information, safe or not, I like to share it with others. Recently I came across an article in regards to colloidal silver. I had to do some research into it because I personally had no idea what it was even for. It’s true definition means the colloid of silver particles in water. It has an antimicrobial property and was, in the past, used on external wounds and burns to prevent infection. Some alternative-health practitioners claim that it is a beneficial nutritional supplement, others claim that it’s a powerful antibiotic which is relatively safe for human consumption. The intake of some silver products in larger quantities over long periods of time have caused argyria, which is a blue/gray skin condition which is otherwise benign. At proper dosage levels, however, the risk for argyria is almost nil.

So without all the mumbo-jumbo listed above. How can colloidal silver seriously work for you? Using it as an antibiotic can be an alternative to most medicines. I personally can not take most antibiotics because they contain levels of fish-oil that would more than likely worsen my immune system while the so-called-helper-pill is fixing infection. Having an alternative is great and all, but at what cost? If I take too much my skin will change color, if I don’t take enough it won’t do anything for me.

Based on the information I’ve found on this product, however, it’s commonly used in dietary supplements. Would you put silver in your body to aid weight loss if there was actually documented studies of it working for you? Has anyone ever heard of colloidal silver? What do you think it can do for you? I’d love to hear your response.

Shrinkage isn’t so bad…

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Many women are unhappy with themselves, there isn’t one perfect body out there and even the close-to-perfect ones wish they could have something more. A big topic for women is the size of their chest. Some find them too small, others too large and either way some form of breast augmentation would make them feel better about themselves.

I don’t personally have a problem with my chest. This, however, is based on the fact that the rest of my family was cursed with large chests and bad backs. My sister is pushing a double-d, and by the end of the day she can barely stand. My grandmother and aunts all have issues with their backs as well. No one in the family is under a large-c cup, and yes it can be very annoying. I’m lucky enough to be the small one of the bunch, a c-cup is just about as large as I need to go. Holiday meals are rather interesting. The women have to sit further back in their chairs just so they aren’t falling into their plates.

So when I see sites like Los Angeles breast augmentation and Beverly Hills breast augmentation, I can’t help but wonder if I should throw some cash together and load up on gift packages…maybe I’ll throw in some botox or something…heh.

Drop the burger and pick up a knife?

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Growing up, I was always considered “the fat girl”. While the 80-pounders all also considered themselves to be over weight, some have even gone as far as having liposuction in order to make their stomachs and thighs look thinner. Now, I do not condone any kind of plastic surgery based on vanity and self-hate issues. If someone has recently gone through a major change, say 100lb weight loss, naturally they deserve to have things done the easy way to finalize their new bodies because they worked so hard to earn it. Not everyone shares this mentality though, hence the reason why the business of plastic surgery is a billion dollar business.

It’s not rare to hear about cosmetic surgery. There are three states where you hear the most about popular procedures. Typically people go to either New York, Florida or California. For those on the eastern sea-board, however, Beverly Hills liposuction is just a hot item to come across, and California liposuction‘s as a whole is just a booming business. Most of the time no one is willing to do the work for themselves, so they rely on doctors to do it for them.

Rodeo Drive LiposuctionSo where is this coming from, exactly? Recently I came across a Rodeo Drive cosmetic surgeon named Lloyd M. Krieger. He did his undergraduate studies at Stanford and then went to medical school in Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He noticed that medical groups weren’t managed efficiently and took the time to go to the school of business so he could one day run an office to the best of his abilities. This is probably why his offices are so highly regarded in Rodeo Drive – he hit the jackpot just based on location, this isn’t even based on his skills. I will say it’s a fairly pretty office though, you can see the waiting room to your left.

So I did some poking around his photo galleries and while I admit that he’s done a beautiful job on the men and women he’s worked on, I also have to wonder why these people couldn’t put the cheeseburger down and walk around the block a little. That’s just my take on it, however. He houses some fairly short-and-simple testimonials on his website. If I’m going to have my body placed in someone else’s hands, I’d prefer a little bit more detail on the subject. But either way the man seems to know what he’s doing and since I can’t recommend someone I’ve never used, I will say that I’m sure you could find his site to be rather resourceful for you if you’re considering any kind of surgery in the future – rodeodriveliposuction.com.

Find your Dream Car!

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

I do a lot of surfing around the net for new and interesting resources, lately I’ve been doing a lot of research into cars. Sean’s car is getting kind of old and he could really use a new one, he knows exactly what he wants but naturally I’m going to find out some more information on it so both he and I know what he’s getting himself into. I know it takes a lot of research, trial and error and especially shopping around for pricing when it comes to purchasing a new car. Not many people can walk into a dealership and say “I want that one…” then walk out of there within a half hour with their brand new toy. There are many sites out there that will help you find everything you’re looking for, there are even ones that are targeted to women, Find Your Dream Car on Ask Patty!, is a key example.

On Ask Patty, women can get advice on car purchases, maintenance, and other automotive related topics. It’s probably the most useful website for women car buyers because they provide women with even more tools to assist them in the shopping and buying process than any other site will offer you. It’s more than likely a great resource for women to keep in mind.
