Not too much going on…

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

It’s unseasonably warm today. I went through my morning routine with a cup of coffee and a cigarette. On my way outside I bundled up not realizing the extreme weather change. The bedroom was rather chilly this morning, so that’s another reason for not thinking about it. I had on my pull-over because I tend to wear that all day and knowing the chill I put my regular coat on as well. The second I stepped out the door I felt the wind but it wasn’t a chilled wind that I’d grown accustomed to over the course of the last few months (it is Winter after all). I quickly had to come back in the house to strip down to my T-shirt because anything more than that would have been murder. The last weather check shows 68¬?F(20¬?C for Bronnie). We’re expected to get up to about 75¬?F (23¬?C). I do know this is part of the big string of storms that just hit the midwest last night. The last time I looked at the death toll it was 52. I can only imagine what the storm is going to do when it makes it’s way up here. Bella is SO going to need to learn to use some wee-wee pads today once that rain comes through, this complex floods with a half-hours worth of rain, torrential down-pours? Oh my.

Voting was yesterday, and I walked into the elementary school with a big grin on my face ready to cast my vote for Obama (yea, after carefully reading through transcripts and watching him on television – he’s my choice this term). Some have asked why I didn’t want to vote for Clinton and my main reason is she’s a republican posing as a democrat, and she’s dependent upon her husband for way too much of her exposure. She also doesn’t seem to know how to turn off “politician” mode. So naturally going with the more laid back guy who is willing to put forth changes that are good for this country, especially on topics of economy and immigration, he’s the one (for me) to choose. You’re entitled to feel different about it, that’s why we’re the country we are. I would just like to see a President in office that doesn’t base his entire choices of our country on a religious standpoint. Yes, he’s against Gay marriage, but he’s not throwing it down our throats either.

But anyway, I get to the school and wait in line, only to be told that I’m not going to be able to vote because when I registered at the DMV a few weeks back I listed myself as independent and unfortunately you can’t vote independent when there’s only Republicans and Democrats up for the primaries. So that upset me quite a bit. The lady assured me that come November I’ll be able to vote for whomever I please. Thankfully Obama won Delaware anyway, I’m just hoping that he can actually keep it up and take over as many delegates as possible. While I really do believe that it’s time for a woman to be in office, I don’t believe Hilary is that woman. There’s nothing against her personally, there are just some things about her mannerisms that really bother me.

So after all of the voting stuff was done we headed back up Route-1 and stopped into one of the Outlets on the way home. Tanger Seaside, or something like that. I had a few gifts from Christmas to return and they were purchased from the Lane Bryant outlet. I was going to return everything in New York when I went shopping up there but you can only return outlet clothes, to outlet stores. I also don’t see the point in calling it an OUTLET when it’s just as expensive as the free-standing stores or even the ones in malls. But my reason for returning everything was based on the fact that everything was huge on me. I used to enjoy swimming in clothing but that’s because I was making every effort to hide myself, even though it only made me appear larger in the long run. I’m now going smaller in sizes and while things are still a bit large on me (depending on the item, of course) it’s no where near as bad as I used to be.

But with the $50 credit from the clothing, and the $40 some-odd dollars off with the gift certificate from my father (It was $200 but I did go shopping when I was up in NY). I picked up a pair of capris, a button down pin-stripe, and a few bed shirts for the whopping total of $7. They would have owed ME money if I could have used my $10 off certificate that I got from the Lane Bryant store but unfortunately they don’t take them. Savages.

I’ve been working pretty hard on coming up with a template for my interview. A phone call on Monday with the CEO has me in full “get ‘er done” mode and I’ve made a few different logo variations for one of their partner companies and now I need to remake their current template. The pressures of February/March are beginning to take it’s toll on me though, we’re coming up to the 2-year mark with Joe and my concentration has been more like A.D.D. My sound sensitivity has come back with full force, making it even harder to concentrate. I have to get this done within the next few hours though – I just hope I’m able to design something they like and be content with it as I’m sending over files.

A book recommendation, followed by randomage.

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Since there isn’t much going on these days, other than sending out resumes and hoping for the best, I’ve been doing a lot of reading to keep myself entertained. A few months ago I picked up a book at the grocery store. It caught my eye because the author, Erica Spindler, has been a favorite of mine for quite some time now. It’s one of her newer books, Copy Cat, and I have to say I highly recommend it to just about everyone in the mood for not only a romantic story, but a suspense thriller as well. Paperback cost me about $7 but you can find it on Amazon for as little as $1.

Erica Spindler - Copycat The Sleeping Angel Killer provides the chilling focus to Spindler’s 12th bloodcurdling romantic thriller (after Killer Takes All). Kitt Lundgren and Mary Catherine “M.C.” Riggio of the Rockford, Ill., VCB (Violent Crimes Bureau) vow to catch a serial killer who sets the suffocated bodies of 10-year-old girls in their own beds, dressed like angels in frilly white nightgowns, hair spread out on their pillows and pink lip gloss applied postmortem to their mouths. Spindler’s setting of a “meat-and-potatoes” Midwest town provides a fresh background for two believable and very cool investigators. Kitt, a recovering middle-aged alcoholic, tried and failed to catch the murderer five years earlier, during a 2001 killing spree, while her own child was dying of leukemia and her marriage was falling apart under the strain. Now, when eerily similar crimes recur, someone calls Kitt, identifying himself as the original killer and the new perp as just a copycat. M.C., an ambitious, distrustful newbie, is assigned to help Kitt with the investigation. The detectives must overcome their personal problems in order to catch the monsters, a task culminating in a breathless finale.

I’m not done with the book yet, I only started reading it before I went to sleep last night. After about an hour I was 150 pages in and found it damn near impossible to put it down. The only reason I did was based on the lack of ability to keep my eyes open. While I was enjoying the book, my head was still telling me to go to sleep and no amount of fighting it was going to keep me awake for much longer anyway.

The book has a day-to-day theme going on with it and oddly enough the story was set in the February/March time frame of 2006. A few things caught my eye, mainly because March 2006 was such a difficult month for me. I noticed that chapter 7 is the only notice of the ex-husband (thus far) and this fell on the date of March 7, 2006. The reason this caught my eye was based on the fact that the very first line of the chapter read “Hello Joe”. I found it pretty freaky, this character is talking to her ex-husband the same day I lost Joe. I know that it’s purely a coincidence but it stood out for me, and probably had a lot to do with why I sat here for so long reading as much as I could before I dozed off.

I had some pretty strange dreams last night, not sure why but all family members that have passed on came to me and started yapping about something important, what the message was – I have no idea. I just think it’s strange that I haven’t dreamt of my Grandmother since I was 8 years old and there she was standing in front of my desk with some kind of a message that I just didn’t understand. I didn’t hear her, I knew she was talking to me, you can always see someone talking to you in your dreams. I’m just unsure of what was actually being said, I just remember screaming “Speak English” because it sounded like “Womp, Womp, Womp” whenever she opened her mouth.

Another interesting dream happened just as I’d dozed off to sleep. I’m unsure of whether or not it was based on the book or not but I was walking up my stairs (the one’s in NY, not DE) and at the top of the stairs was Tony Soprano’s mother (now deceased). I could literally see right through her, she looked at me with this evil grin on her face and then her eyes rolled up in the back of her head. I went to run inside but I couldn’t get my keys out of my pocket and I stood there screaming “Wake me up!”. When I finally did wake up it had only been about 20 minutes since I’d gone to bed. It was just one of those freaky dreams that chills you to the bone and sticks with you all freaking day.

And speaking of bone chilling, according to my weather monitor it’s supposed to get down to about 3¬?F tonight. A quick snow shower came through this evening but I haven’t been outside since about 1am to see what kind of “damage” was done. Down here you don’t get much, we’re too close to the ocean and everything tends to melt within an hour because of the salt in the air. I hear NY is getting some pretty decent snow, I kind of wish I could be up there right now to enjoy it but I have to accept the fact that Delaware will never be New York and I need to move on. It sucks, but nothing I can do about it.

Busy with Resolutions?

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

I’ve been keeping myself busy to make up for the financial loss of the holiday season. I’ve gotten a lot of posting done, a lot of design work and even some personal things as well. I hope to be able to bring in the New Year with friends and family and not have to worry about any actual WORK until the 2nd or so. I’m heading up to New York this weekend and unfortunately got a phone call tonight that set me in a tail spin. My aunt was in a pretty bad car accident, her car is more than likely totaled. I did get in touch with her tonight though, she says that she’s fine, but she’s also a stubborn Irish woman so who knows if that’s actually the case. I know she’s a little sore from the accident but she’s assured me, a few times, that she’s absolutely fine with just a few bumps and bruises. I found out from my sister, she called me from work and told me I need to get back up to NY to see her, I’m thinking something is very wrong but a second phone call to verify information told me that I can wait until Saturday.

I went to the DMV yesterday to get my ID changed over, I’m officially a Delaware resident. I was apprehensive about surrendering my NY ID because I was unsure of the wait time for a new ID card. In NY you go through the motions and then you wait a few days and it shows up in the mail. In DE, however, the card is instantly given to you so I don’t have to worry about not having proper identification on me when I’m traveling this weekend. My next big task is to get a car and some insurance down here and the rest is cake. So that’s one goal for the year.

Another goal is heading back to school. I’ve decided on DeVry and luckily with my situation I’m eligable for full financial aid from 2-3 different resources. I just need to make sure to get all of the paperwork in around the first of the year. It’s only going to be an associates but it’ll carry over for when I’m going for my bachelors (maybe masters) somewhere down the road. So on top of an 8 hour work day, I’m adding a 3-4 hour school day. Then the other 12 hours can basically be spent relaxing and sleeping. Not too shabby – I know I can handle it.

On top of the first two goals, quitting smoking is certainly on the list this year. With a lack of health insurance and increasing lung issues, it’s time to stop beating the dead horse and moving on. I picked up “The Easy Way To Stop Smoking” because I’m a reader and figured a book could tell me more than those damn “Cold Turkey” techniques. I have to say that I can understand why so many people have read this book over the last 20 years. I completed it in about 3 hours and I’m confident that once I begin his methods I’ll succeed in quitting for good. Cold turkey and the patches and that horrible gum – none of it is worth it to me. You quit when YOU are ready to quit and you consider yourself a “Non Smoker” the second you extinguish your last cigarette. I’ll pick a day and then go from there. As of right now there’s a little too much stress in the air for me to pull this off completely. I know you’re sitting there like “Ha! Talk about another excuse” but that’s just how it is for me. I’ve got the little monster in my brain that won’t shut up and I’m going to have to slowly learn how to stop listening to him, that’s all.

And then of course there’s the weight-loss resolution that everyone has. The difference is I’m already ON a diet plan (and doing quite well, thank you) so it’s basically just keeping the concentration, continuing with my small-portion meals during the day and going on from there. Even Sean is going to get in on it with me, who knows – maybe by this summer we’ll spend more time at the beach than in the back yard – heh.

In any event, I hope everyone has a Happy New Year, I won’t be around until Tuesday afternoon so hopefully everyone has a fun weekend. Be safe!

Oy! Four Days Away!

Friday, December 21st, 2007

With only a few days left before Christmas, I’ve noticed quite a rise in traffic on Route-1. Everyone is getting in their last minute shopping, few think they own the store with the way they’re putzing around. I really can’t stand shoppers who wonder aimlessly around a department store and still walk out with nothing. I fully intend to do all of my shopping on Overstock and TigerDirect next year, no question about it. (more…)

The Look and Feel of Winter

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

December 5, 2007 Rehoboth Beach Snowfall It’s been pretty cold for the last few weeks but based on how close we are to the Ocean, I assumed that I wouldn’t SEE much of a Winter season. So with that said you can only imagine my surprise to wake up and see snow falling. I woke up about 12:30 but I didn’t actually fall asleep until a little after 5am so I guess I got a decent amount of sleep for a change. I woke up to arguing over the heat being off but that quickly blew over. The second I looked out the window I saw the flurries begin to fall from the sky and instantly threw my jacket on, slapped the leash on Bella and bolted out the door.¬† Unfortunately it wasn’t sticking to the roads but I guess it just wasn’t heavy enough for that, let alone cold enough.¬† There’s also a lot of salt in the air thanks to the Ocean so I assume that had something to do with it as well.¬† It started around 12:30 and now being 9:30 in the evening it doesn’t look as though it’s ready to let up anytime soon.¬† It’s only an estimated inch to two inches but that’s more than enough to keep me happy right now.¬† Karen hates the snow AND the cold, I just don’t think she went far enough South to really get away from it, honestly.¬† I say Florida should be her next move – heh.

Anyhow, I’ve finally gotten all of the gifts wrapped up and ready to go for Christmas, now they just have to sit under the tree for the next 19 days.¬† It seems like quite a bit of time but when it comes to the Holiday Season, time just kind of flies by anyway.¬† I also did a lot of reading today.¬† I picked up a few books from Barnes & Noble last week and I’ve been browsing through them ever since.¬† One of them is a soft cover and to keep up with the festivities I used some wrapping paper scraps to put together a book cover for it.¬† It went from a boring “Idiots Guide to…” book to a shiny red one that matches all of the gifts under the tree.¬† I’m pretty odd when it comes to gift giving.¬† I like shiny materials, I tend to use a lot of red, silver and even blue for punches of color.¬† I don’t typically use the paper that’s covered with pictures of Santa or anything, I like the metallic look that you get from the solid color paper – rarely found in the Seasonal section of the store.¬† Go down the card/bag/bow isle, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

I’ve gotten started on my laundry for this upcoming weekend.¬† I’m really excited about going to Atlantic City.¬† It’s around the same time (almost to the day) that I went last year when I won the $6,500 that really helped me out with Christmas and school last year.¬† I’m hoping to have the same kind of luck this time around, but I’m only limiting myself to $500 for the whole weekend, I figure if I only make about $500 every two days, spending $250 a day really won’t be such a big deal.¬† If I happen to lose, oh well – I’m sure I’ll have fun doing it.

I’m bringing my camera this time.¬† If my memory serves correct, A.C. was very beautifully decorated last year.¬† I’m itching to get some good pictures.¬† Sean is even considering bringing his camcorder depending on where we happen to go.¬† I wonder what kind of a decorations they’d have up at Showboat.¬† I know that Ceaser’s has all of the statues decorated with Christmas hats, it’s going to be a pretty amazing weekend.

Oh crap, she’s coming back.

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

It’s a pretty windy day, gusts are hitting about 50 MPH which is enough to send all kinds of chaos to anything in it’s path. The chairs on the porch have been blowing around all night, Sean had to chase the garbage cans down after the dump truck showed up this morning, and even now we had to resort to using a belt to tie them up to the side of the house so we could avoid losing them again. Poor Bella was almost airborne thanks to a pretty hefty gust when she was out for her morning pee, so that was amusing. With the wind it’s about 40¬?F (4¬?C), it’s only going to get colder considering the sun is slowly beginning to set. It should be a pretty interesting night, that’s for sure.

I have quite a bit of cleaning and vacuum packing to do. There’s a lot of things scattered around the house that just need to be put away. There’s the issue of Christmas items needing to be unpacked plus laundry and other things that have accumulated in numerous areas. The kitchen (yet again) looks as though a bomb went off in it and the wicked witch is going to be making an appearance this weekend so lord knows how well that’s going to turn out. Sean is already annoyed at the thought of her being here, I can only imagine how that’s going to escalate when she steps foot in the door.

I can tell already that it’s going to be a hectic week…that’s for sure.

Narf?

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

My laptop is slowly dying on me.¬† The battery has been a bit faulty and for the last three days I’ve been unable to get the Wireless to work.¬† It worked fine at the hotel, Sean was using it the whole time he was there with the dogs.¬† It just doesn’t seem to want to work in the house.¬† And I’m not sure what button I pushed, or how hard I smacked this thing but the Wireless is now back up and running so I’ve been getting some holiday shopping taken care of.¬† I’m known for going overboard on Christmas but this year I’m keeping it simple.¬† Gift certificates for everyone!¬† My sister, mother, step-father, aunt and whoever else happens to pop into my head before I check-out should be taken care of with a quick $50-$100 and that covers that.

I wanted to do some real shopping this weekend but weekend shopping in a town overloaded with lord knows how many outlet stores, just isn’t possible.¬† So being as most students are back to school on Monday we’re going to head up to Dover for the day and get some physical shopping done.¬† I did just place a few orders for Sean, he already knows I’m getting him a video game but that’s because I already know that he got me a necklace from Zales, and he’s basically giving me a Christmas.¬† From the tree to the decorations, this house is going to be all spiffed up for the holidays.¬† Now,¬† I know a $70 game doesn’t even remotely compete with the $400 necklace but at the same time that’s just the only gift he’s aware of :heh:¬† We’re going to separate in the mall, I’m sure I’ll run up the bill but I know that I’m supposed to stay under $400 because I trumped him last year, I was also making more money at the time.¬† Now we’re pretty much equal but I do still have to be fair and just take my diamonds and shut up.

Thanksgiving went pretty smoothly,¬† we both enjoyed our quiet evening at home with a turkey and some fixings.¬† He wound up going into a Turkey Coma and slept from about 7pm to 2am but then he was wide awake for a while and back to bed at about 6am.¬† His schedule is a little screwy lately, he hasn’t been sleeping very much.¬† Even now he’s been knocked out for the last 2 hours, it’s pushing midnight.¬† I do know the cause for today’s early rise though.¬† The lady next door is moving out and unfortunately her family doesn’t understand the concept of time and insist that screaming next to someone’s window at 9am is perfectly fine.¬† If I wasn’t so tired I would have gone out there and said something but with no cigarette OR coffee in my system – that’s just the violent bitch end of things that couldn’t have turned out very well at all.¬† So I stuck my head under a pillow and dealt with it.¬† Now I’m exhausted and tempted to fall asleep myself but there’s still quite a bit of cleaning up to do around the house before I can truly relax to the point of falling asleep.

Anyhow – Sean and I went down to Rehoboth Ave. last night to see the tree lighting.¬† Standing in the crowds just wasn’t worth it to us so we walked around a few of the little shops down there and picked up a few things.¬† I found a few interesting things for Karen and my father, I also picked up a puzzle for Sean and I to accomplish for some artwork in the room.¬† He has a picture of Yoda in the office that from far away looks fairly plain but when you get closer to the image you’ll see all of the clips from the movie arranged in a way that make the center image (Yoda) completely possible.¬† I found one just like it but it’s a 1,000 piece puzzle.¬† I’m sure I could knock that out in a weekend but it’s really more of a relaxation thing.¬† It’s just a wonder of where I’ll be able to put it so it doesn’t get destroyed by a clumsy human or a pet who can’t keep their mouth off things.¬† So that should be fun.

I’m disappointed at my new town.¬† Not to sound stereotypical but with all of the gay men in this town you’d thing things would look better on the avenue.¬† There are numerous shops that are done up very well and even the streets are nicely decorated, each pole being wrapped with garland and lights with a sweet bow to top things off.¬† Then you get to the tree, what’s supposed to be the staple of all of these decorations, and they don’t even bother to wrap the lights around the tree, they drop them down from the top and just kind of let them hang there.¬† It’s certainly disappointing.¬† I don’t feel bad at all that I completely forgot to take my camera with me last night, that’s for sure.

I have some more e-shopping to do, maybe I can get some more family members knocked out without even having to leave the couch.¬† The joy of shopping online in your PJ’s.

Clearing up confusion…

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

There seemed to be a little bit of confusion with my last entry.¬† There are three dogs in this house, only one of them go outside but all of them are protected from fleas, ticks and all the other goodies that can latch onto them if they step out the door.¬† While animals typically can carry these glorious little fuckers into the house, that doesn’t mean that humans can’t do it either.¬† Delaware has it’s downfalls, like many other states across the US a lot of homes are built onto acres that once housed many tall trees and even more little critters.¬† Humans can track fleas into a house, even if you don’t have pets you’re still at risk for an infestation.¬† Just something to clear up.

So Karen and I did quite a bit of work this weekend.¬† On Saturday we booked a two rooms at a hotel in the area that accepts pets, Sean stayed there with the dogs while Karen and I were bombing the house.¬† He has horrible allergies and enough trouble breathing with basic dust in the area, let alone a chemical bomb.¬† We didn’t go to Walmart and buy some crappy $7 bomb that doesn’t kill anything without having to be used four times a year.¬† Karen purchased a powder called “Flea Busters” that you work into the rug with a broom and then let it sit for 24-48 hours while it works its magic.¬† You then leave the house until the dust settles and begin the daunting task of vacuuming.¬† The problem is the dust takes a lot longer to settle than is listed on the box and with the allergies that all of us are dealing with, the only real option was a two-night stay at the hotel.

We came back after 24 hours to do some vacuuming, while I went around the house with the vacuum Karen got started on the laundry because that room filled up a lot quicker than we thought it would.¬† The dust basically got everywhere and for the sake of killing off any eggs or even the adults, plus the dust from the bomb on the articles themselves – washing everything was the only option.¬†¬† We returned to the hotel a little after midnight, went to our rooms and completely crashed.¬† Two days of moving heavy furniture, breathing in horrible chemicals and just being exhausted in general took it’s toll on us.

Karen checked out of her room at about 8am because she needed to get the dogs back here and then head off to work.¬† Sean and I left our room about 10am, stopped to pick up some breakfast and headed back to the house.¬† There was still some dust in the air and I told Sean to take it easy when we walked in but even that didn’t help.¬† He had a pretty horrible reaction to it and needed to be taken to the hospital.¬† It was a bad asthma attack that seemed to have come out of no where.¬† I noticed he was having some issues when he smelled the dust, I wasn’t expecting it to get as far as it did.¬† He’s doing OK now, he’s got a prescription to work with for his nasal issues, plus he’s got an inhaler.

I’m still rotating laundry, this is the first time I’ve been able to get online in the last four days and that was only to check the time on a few things going on this weekend.¬† I went grocery shopping tonight to pick up some odds and ends for Thanksgiving.¬† Sean and I are going to be here by ourselves, Karen is going up to New York to be with her sister.¬† My father is going to be working and there’s a lot of drama going on with the family (mom’s side) at the moment so I’d rather just not be there – staying here is the more comfortable option for us.¬† So I’m still in the process of cleaning up the house so I have some counter space to work with.¬† There is also a lot of crap on the dining room table but that’s because there’s still some more vacuuming to do.¬† It just requires a lot of heavy lifting so I’m going to have Sean help me out with it tomorrow.

We’re heading back out to do some small shopping tomorrow but that’s only to pick up detergent because there are at least 30 loads of laundry to do and I’m running low.¬† I also need to head to Home Depot to pick up a Lampholder Adapter so I can start decorating outside.¬† I didn’t like having to go outside and plug everything in when we had the lights setup last year, I’d rather just get the converter and work off of the light switch in the house.¬† It’s easier and doesn’t require flipping a switch on the circuit breaker, there’s seriously something wrong with the plug out there.¬† It’s not that we’re overloading it, it’s just been faulty for quite some time now.

Time to rotate some more laundry.

Ear Infections

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

I’m going to have to bring Bella to the vet tomorrow.¬† She’s come down with an ear infection and I can honestly say that it’s strange to know she even has one.¬† I never had any allergy or daily health related issues with her in the past.¬† Karen told me that when she first moved down to Delaware, both of her dogs were pretty sick because of the allergies.¬† The local vet even confirmed it for her, allergies in DE for pets are so high it’s rediculous.¬† I’m not bringing her to the clinic, even if it’s going to be cheaper.¬† I’m already getting her taken care of in regards to finding a tick soaking up her blood, I refuse to bring her to a clinic where ants are crawling around the wall.¬† I know it’s mainly volunteer and it’s cheaper, but coming from New York a place like this would instantly be rejected.¬† They’re nice people and they do care about the animals but there’s a lack of air conditioning and minus the fact that the wipe the tables down with disinfectant, there are still bugs crawling around all over the place.¬† I’m not leaving there with her having another tick or fleas for that matter.¬† I don’t want to bomb the house, it’s hard to do when there are two other dogs in the house who refuse to leave the house and bombing this place would require at least an hour without anyone being in it, including them.

:ugh:

Hopping around

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

While I still don’t feel as though I accomplished anything today, I did manage to get through everything on my to do list – so I guess that counts for something. There’s still a long list of things to get done before Saturday but a deadline is a deadline and I like to meet and/or exceed them as much as possible. It keeps me on my toes, and typically the client is happy as well.

FedEX finally updated their tracking system and I’ve learned that my monitor is coming out of Exton, PA. I know that this is only about 2 hours away from me so I’ll be happy to see it when I wake up in the morning. This, of course, depends on whether or not I can get myself back on track.

I know that you’re supposed to take antibiotics for exactly how many days your doctor prescribed but when the infection seems to have cleared up two days prior to the bottle being empty, do you really have to? I know, “Krissy, you’re being stupid!” but I just don’t like having to sleep things off, I need to be productive damn it!

Labor Day weekend is coming up and the locals are anticipating the return to normalcy the moment the weekend is over. Tourists will go back home, the boardwalk will be cleaner, and we don’t have to worry about the crazies that seem to only come out of the woodwork when the heat shows up. THANK GOD!

In other news, we have a new pet. I went outside tonight to find a chubby little Frog hanging out by the front door. Knowing that I’ve seen a few of them hopping around before, I left it alone and walked right past it. Sean tried to help it out by putting it back on the grass but the frog has very obviously refused and is now back on the porch keeping an eye on the door for us. Bella treated it as a new toy, but knowing full well that this one doesn’t squeak we pulled her away from it instantly. He hopped inside when Sean brought Bella in from her walk but he quickly pushed him back out the door. I’m not sure why but this one seems like a special little buddy and something tells me he’ll be around for a while. Guess I should name him, huh? Any recommendations? Maybe tomorrow I’ll snap a picture of him or something, I’m sure he’ll still be on the porch hiding in the corner.

A theory I have is the bug zapper, maybe he’s picked up on the fact that anything that’s killed on the zapper is usually kicked back out (depending on what size it is) and the reason it’s so fat is based on the fact that it’s just eating very well. Either way I’ll consider him my new buddy and move on from there.

It’s almost 4am, guess I should start getting ready for bed. Whether I actually fall asleep is a completely different story.

Lingering.

It’s a little after 4:30 and I’m starting to wonder why I’m still awake. I’ve made the attempt at laying down and crashing for the night but there’s so much going on in my head that coming back to the office to figure it all out was just the only route to take. I wrote up my to-do list for the week, I’ve cleaned off my desk in anticipation for my new monitor, I even wound up heading into the kitchen and putting some dishes away just because they were in the sink and bothering the crap out of me.

On the top of my to-do list is accomplishing a September template, I may wind up just changing the color scheme of this one though. I actually like it too much to archive it so I’ll break my own ‘rules’ and leave it up for a while. When someone says “September” what colors pop out at you? And Di if you say “school bus yellow” I’ll head up to NY and smack you with a trout. I was thinking reds/oranges but that’s more of an October thing. I have no idea what the birthstone color is for September either, however I’m sure that can easily be found out through a quick Google search. I’m just too lazy to do it. Sapphire, that works out for me considering I was thinking blue anyway.

The meds are just kicking my ass, that’s really the only thing I can say that would explain the funk. Dreams are really messed up, my stomach is always bothering me because of whatever reaction the antibiotics are having on it, and to top that off I just don’t have the drive to do much of anything, even a well-written to-do list can’t keep me focused, usually that was the case.

I know I’m lacking creativity, on top of that I’m sure I just need a vacation because I haven’t really gone anywhere in quite some time. Sean and I have been unable to get down to the beach thanks to all of the Benny’s, and usually it’s the Ocean that sparks some kind of energy in me, and I’m not sure why either. I guess I’ll just have to wait until after Labor Day for things to get back to normal. It’s not like we could walk around on the beach anyway, his knee has been bothering him and my back isn’t doing to great at the moment either. I tried some more of that Freeze-It stuff, but it only works for like 10 minutes on me. I’ve also been in pain for years and even hefty muscle relaxers never did the trick…all I did was wind up sleeping too much.

It just sucks…I don’t know.

The Daily Randomage

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

It’s starting to warm back up here in Rehoboth. For the past few days there’s been some pretty nice weather. Saturday only made it to the mid 70’s and there was such a nice breeze that having the windows open for the day was an absolute must. It was graciously welcomed after the humidity that couldn’t even be cut with a knife last week.

I managed to get Bella into the tub on Saturday afternoon. Karen was giving Candy a bath because she has a nasty skin infection and requires the medicated shampoo twice a week to help sooth her skin. Bella, being convinced that Candy is her mother (they do kind of look alike even though they aren’t the same breed), decided that she was going to do everything she could to hop up onto the counter and get in the sink with her. Being as she’s so small, that just didn’t happen but since she made it a point to try so hard to get in there, once Karen took Candy out I wound up throwing Bella right in. So now she’s fresh and clean and thankfully I was able to accomplish that on a day that wasn’t so humid because I hate having to give her a bath on such a nasty day.

Tonight Karen has a date with someone she met last weekend, hopefully that works out well for her. They’re going up to Adriatico (sp?) which I hear is a pretty nice Italian restaurant. Sean and I are going to take our own Italian route and more than likely order a pizza so we can just relax and watch a movie tonight. I’m in no mood to do any cooking but I know that I have to throw some meatballs in the crock pot sooner or later to get the dogs taken care of.

Karen and I both get a lot of flack for feeding our dogs home-cooked food but there’s a matter of safety involved that most people don’t understand. On top of small-breed dogs being very picky eaters – with all of the recalls on pet food and human food in general it’s good to know that what I’m feeding my dog can’t potentially cause her any harm. So if I have to spend extra money on chicken and beef in order to get her to eat without having to worry about kidney failure then naturally that’s the route I’m going to have to take.

I look at it this way – how much money was spent on vet bills based on the recalls this past year? I didn’t have to shell out a dime because my dog never touched any of that food. Trust me, I’m not saying that feeding your dog REAL dog food is wrong. Some people are lucky enough to have dogs that aren’t such finicky eaters. This doesn’t work for me though, Bella won’t touch anything that’s come out of a can unless it’s canned chicken which runs for about $2 each. $0.70 dog food is great, but she doesn’t see it that way. Spending the extra money to insure that she doesn’t die of starvation (or stubbornness in her case) is the only route I can really take.

In other news, PayPerPost is back to running their $1K Tuesday. I saw the opportunity as soon as it was posted but thanks to their new capatcha system and my inability to quickly read morphed text, someone managed to get it before me. Highly unfair but congradulations to them! Their name hasn’t shown up on today’s Top Earners yet though, it was listed as a $50 post. Even if I didn’t get the $1k I’d take the $50…heh.

In any event, my lunch break is officially over. Time to get back to work!

Is it time for bed yet?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

It’s about 2:15am and it’s been a pretty busy day and I’m pooped because of it. I’ve almost completed the templates for Dick, I’m just waiting on a response from him about a few things. I’ve been battling it out with my server master in regards to Ranee and I’m close to completing another template to throw up on AGN Designs because a few things need to be changed out.

Rent’s been paid, bills are all taken care of and I’m shopping for a new cellphone. T-mobile has free Razr’s for those signing up with a new 2-year contract, I’m considering getting a family plan with Sean but not sure when, at the moment. I think the only reason they’re free is because Motorola is releasing R2 soon, it’s nice and all but I like the original – not too keen on what the new one has to offer.

I’m also working on getting the information together for grants/loans and other crap for Westwood so I can get that started. I’m just too busy with shit to really be able to sit down and concentrate on that at the moment.

It’s great having a pretty heavy work-flow coming in. I’m under a new contract and have like three templates pending for just basic blog work that shouldn’t take me THAT long, I just need to schedule myself. It’s the 2nd and I still haven’t gotten around to changing calendars around.

It’s supposed to be pretty hot this week and I’m someone who absolutely hates hot weather so I may wind up spending more time inside than I’d really like. I like having the ability to go relax outside for a little while and get some fresh air. In Delaware, however, there’s something known as a “State Smell” and the running joke with residents is you can tell what county your in based on the smell in the air. So since I’m surrounded by farms it’s kind of hard to relax in the heat. And even though placement of the house is in my favor during the day, when the sun starts to set it drops down head-on with the porch and that’s an instant heat box. Just not fun at all.

In any event, I considered this my ‘break’ for the evening so I need to get back to work.

[edit] You people seriously need to spend less time coming up with bull-shit stories and more time looking into a real life. I have not been sued, threatened or even contacted by TGO in regards to anything going on with Ranee’s site being suspended. No lawyers are throwing paperwork in my face, no local police departments are telling me to shut anything down and I have not spoken to, or plan on speaking to TGO about this. The reports did not come from him and while private information has been listed on the site he hasn’t said BOO to me about it. The issue at this point is between Ranee, Me and my server master. Step away from the freaking computer and leave things alone and next time you start sending off stupid emails at least have your damn facts straight.

Moving back to NY?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Anyone who’s ever lived in New York knows how expensive it can be just to survive. If you’re someone who rents then you more than likely won’t get very far ahead on your bills and if you’re someone who owns their own home, unless it was passed down to you through generations you’re still going to drop a pretty penny on a regular basis.

I grew up in Glen Cove, while I’ll admit that getting out of there was the best possible thing for me, there are sections of the town that are absolutely gorgeous. Naturally, in order to live there you’re going to need to bring in at least $300,000 a year in the process.

Today I came across a resource in regards to Roslyn NY real estate. While I haven’t ever lived in Roslyn it’s only about 10 minutes away from my previous residence in Glen Cove. There are sections that are completely horrible, but for the most part it’s fairly gorgeous housing as well. Again, there are ritzy areas of Long Island and then there are what one would expect to see when they go to New York – slums.

So since Sean and I are working on buying our own home, I’ve naturally looked into where I’d feel the most comfortable. Unfortunately we don’t make enough combined income to be able to afford a mortgage up in New York therefor we’re going to remain outside of the Tri-State Area and either continue on our search here in Delaware, possibly move to Maryland or head out to Ohio, something I’m not too keen on but he’s persistent in trying to convince me to get out there.

The DS Browser!

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

With being sick for the last week I was kind of itching to get out of the house. Last night I did some grocery shopping but tonight was more of the fun shopping kind of experience. I knew we were going up to Dover to pick up something ordered from Sears and then knowing that Sears is attached to the mall we also spent some time in there as well. I had about $60 worth of gift certificates for FYE.

I needed a new pair of head phones so naturally I picked that up first. I’ve been using the same pair for a while now and they just recently crapped out on me. However, this was only after I’d lent them to Sean when his messed up. He’s now got my headset with the mic attached so lets see how long those can last – heh. So that was $10 of the $60. I then dropped $30 on something that I thought was going to be the coolest thing since sliced bread – The DS Browser. Yep, I own it! I went to quite a few different websites and let me tell you folks – your sites look like complete shit on the DS browser! I’m one of them, my stylesheet isn’t even reading properly because the browser itself is based on an older version of Opera that doesn’t read CSS properly – at all.

Knowing that I recently installed the iPhone plugin for WordPress which can be customized but it removes all of your excess crap from the sidebars and just puts the blog entries on the website loaded through iPhone. It does not effect how your actual template looks for browser based viewers, that will still load your original template. The iPhone plugin basically just perks up your RSS template for iPhone only users and goes from there. At first I thought it was for any RSS reading device but the plugin was programmed to only read the iPhones operating system. Naturally, knowing there are a few sites that are PS3 compatible out there, I went in search for a DS based plugin.

The one I came across claims that it’s going to give you just a basic template but unfortunately after activating this plugin it managed to fuck up my entire website. I also attempted to load the site through my RSS Feeds but that didn’t work either because it’s telling me that my feeds don’t exist since that’s how Opera actually reads them. So either way I’m going to have to work on figuring something out. I’m sure that I could just create a plugin myself or I can start coming up with basic one column templates for a while, guess I’ll find out when I get there.

Other than the browser I managed to pick up Lego Star Wars. I know that sounds kind of strange but I’m slowly going to build up a nice database of DS games over time because I do literally play my DS on a daily basis. Up until a few weeks ago I was playing Mario non stop and then up until this afternoon I was playing Sonic Rush (highly recommended) now my newest addiction (if Sean ever gives back my DS) will more than likely be Lego Star Wars. I saw it on G4 a few days ago and thought it was the cutest thing ever, so naturally that’s the reason why I picked it up.

Our mission today was to find a Wii but naturally in a mall that’s close to impossible. We came up empty handed in that regard but at least we can now surf the internet without having to boot up a computer. If it didn’t take so long to type on the thing, I’d probably be using it to blog right now. But, I know that I’ve written over 600 words at this point and if I was writing this on the DS I’d be on sentence #2 and completion would be somewhere around 6am lol.

Note: If anyone comes across a plugin for WordPress that’s for the DS and actually WORKS please let me know!

Travel Plans: London, England

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

It’s officially the 4th of July and since I’m basically living in the middle of a huge tourist attraction, there are approximately 125,000 people here that aren’t typically around throughout the year. There are supposed to be some kind of fireworks going off at the beach but a recent view of the boardwalk thanks to the towns website has shown me that not only is the place completely packed but there isn’t even standing room at this point either. Times like these make me wish I was some place else, preferably Europe considering I’ve always wanted to go to London.

Naturally, if I ever did get to Europe I’d more than likely hit up Italy first considering that’s where my family comes from. I’d also spend a bit of time in Ireland as well. I’d personally, however, prefer to see something with a bit more history especially a place like London, England that houses close to half of all of the locations of my favorite British comedies, ones I still watch on a daily basis thanks to my local MPT station, Afternoon Tea = Best Stuff in The World! I can’t tell you how many questions I’ve answered just trying so hard to win the official Afternoon Tea mug that is just too cute for words, it would match all the rest of my coffee mugs so perfectly. It’s not like we don’t have an over abundance of mugs in the house though, it would just be nice to have one that I can say I won instead of one I spent $1.00 on at Dollar Tree.

A fellow blogger friend of mine happens to live in London and while she’s traveled throughout most of the world, she finds that home is where the heart is and she’s stated numerous times that she could not, nor would she ever, find herself living in another part of England, it’s just close to impossible and while I’ve never been there and have only seen images, movies and quick clips that are focused there, I have to say that I can completely agree with her.

So how’d you spend your July 4th? Are you in a heavily populated tourist area? How’d that work out for you?

I can tell you this though, I feel HORRIBLE for the residents in Ocean City right now. They’re even more packed than we are and there isn’t even standing room down on that boardwalk which is a mile long. Ocean City has a 5 mile long boardwalk that all overlooks the ocean where the fireworks are shooting off right now, those poor residents must be going through hell!
