Spoiled, Spoiled, SPOILED!

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Dog food can be a completely evil thing. Many dogs, particularly smaller ones, have allergies so the owner is naturally going to look for the food that doesn’t contain any of these allergens. Typically this is more expensive food but I’ll agree that if you love your animal as much as you claim you do, you’ll feed them something that won’t make them sick in excess.

So lately Bella has been very picky about what she eats, or even IF she eats for that matter. Putting chicken down at 10am means nothing to her, she insists on eating about 3AM the following morning after you’ve coaxed her into numerous different plates, she’ll return back to that $2.00 can of CHICKEN, not dog food – I said Chicken.

Candy, Karen’s dog, has been on a high protein diet throughout her entire life. She maybe had dog food twice when she was a baby but since then it’s been home-cooked meals and to a degree, mixed with pure luck, after 16 years she’s still alive. A little senile – yes – but she’s still alive. I do believe this is based on the dog food. Knowing full well that I intend to have Bella for as long as possible I’ve also steered away from dog food but this is only after I’d tried every single available brand that she turned her nose up to.

For some reason, not sure if it’s the weather or just stubborn animals, Candy and Bella have both decided that they no longer want $2 canned chicken. They want home made meatballs. And not just any meatballs, MY meatballs. This means we’re now spending money on 5lbs of meat (per week) and all of the fixings for me to make the family sauce, nope – they don’t like bottled sauce either.

It’s now 3am and I’ve been up for over 16 hours and I’m exhausted, this – however – doesn’t mean anything when it comes to making sure all animals are covered for dinner tonight. I turned 5lbs of chop meat into about 8 pounds of meatballs (once you throw in all the fixings, of course). They’re now in the oven cooking off some of the fat before I throw them into the crock pot where they’ll sit for 10 hours and all dogs will be fed.

This morning, however, I’ll have to then begin making dinner for the humans and I volunteered to make a big turkey dinner. I’m stupid, I know – but my love for Thanksgiving side dishes can really get the best of me. Hrm…I just remembered there’s a few things I forgot to get for dinner. Damn! Guess I’ll have to send Sean out.

Been a few days…

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

With the amount of time I’ve spent online for the last few days I wanted to at least get around to posting something here instead of dealing with things every where else. I’m catching up on email, I completed a few things for other domains and clients and now I’m waiting patiently for Sean to get out of the shower so we can head out for the evening.

August 2007 Someone asked me about the color scheme for August, I figured I’d paste it up to share. Note that once the template is replaced for September’s, it’ll be setup under my the free wordpress templates, naturally there’s going to be a few alterations but I’m sure it’ll work out just fine as a free template anyway. Who doesn’t love Gray and Pink?

PS: Still working on returning comments, I have three domains worth to get through!

:: bangs head on desk ::

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I’m done with the August theme. I’m thinking about launching early considering I can’t stand this blue thing. But I have all of that stuff on auto-move so I’ll just wait and go from there so I don’t mess anything up. Jenny saw it last night, thought it was cute – that’s good enough for me. I made her an icon to match my template and now she’s all smiles.

Disorganized as all hell

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I’ve been saying it to myself for days but I really need to do some serious cleaning. My desk is turning into a dumping ground for random crap that I don’t need and the sooner I get rid of everything, the better. I have magazines kind of thrown around and papers that could probably be thrown out that I’m too lazy to look at. My iPod is dead but I’ve yet to throw it on the charger and wires are all over the place with my keyboard and mouse plus the head phones. My white board covered in my to-do list actually is just listing completed projects at this point and the board could basically be wiped clean, it’s kind of annoying. Soda cans and pens kind of fill in the holes everywhere else.

To my left is the dumping ground for both Sean and I. There’s a table separating our desks (makes it look like back-to-back L shaped desks) that’s covered in crap that doesn’t even need to be in here. His desk doesn’t look any better at the moment either. I think the two of us need to stop working (money’s great right now) and then spend an hour cleaning out the room. The coffee table that’s being used as a TV tray is caked in dust and that can’t be good for his XBox360. I know for a fact that my computer needs to be dusted out as well but the can of air we’ve got is close to dead and I don’t want to shoot any kind of liquid into my case, condensation on a can or air is HORRIBLE when the thing is about to die.

There’s crap in the fridge that can definitely be thrown out and even with all the shelving we have in here everything is unorganized. There’s got to be something we can do to solve this problem. This middle table is going to have to be changed out at some point because when I purchase the iMac it’s going in between us. That’s later down the road but you’d think knowing that we have some kind of time frame going on we’d be able to organize better. You know?

Yep, we bought a Wii

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Sean is currently jumping for joy over the fact that he found a vendor on eBay who’s currently got the cheapest listing for brand new Wii’s. They’re based in Canada, some video game store, and they added $30 to the price so the store could at least gain some kind of profit. It was only about $30 shipping or something like that as well so in total he spent about $310. I gave him $100 towards it, not realizing that this was going to happen today. We spoke about this in regards to Christmas, not five minutes later.

Either way we estimate that it will be here sometime with in the next 7-days, at most and once we know for sure that everything is working properly and we didn’t get screwed over, we’ll probably go out and make a few quick purchases for it. By default the Wii comes with one wii-mote so we’re going to pick up a couple more after it gets here. There’s no point in purchasing them before the product is even shipped because if it happens to not show up that’s going to be a waste of money that can be used elsewhere.

I can say, from the get-go, that I’m going to skin my wii-mote. I want a pink skin, I don’t know why but I tend to love anything skinned in pink or black. We’ve got a few games in mind as well. I think for now, however, we’ll stick to the default mini-games that it comes with (bowling, tennis, baseball, etc.) and purchase a points card so we can download some games also. I personally wanted the Wii for the original Mario so either way I’ll be a happy chick.

I think we just bought a Wii

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

I know it’s a little early to even bring it up but I also know that stores already have their Christmas items out so to me it would make sense to start thinking about what I’m doing this year. I know, from the get go, that Sean and I are just going to pool our money together and buy each other a gift for Christmas. We’ve wanted a Wii for quite some time now and now that we’re doing pretty well with money we’ve decided to just put up about $250 each and buy either a bundle or just the console and a few extras to go with it. That’ll cover our gifts to each other considering we both actually want the product we’re hoping to get.

Now, naturally we’re not going to have the ability to find one for Christmas but we may wind up buying it earlier than Christmas and just calling it a day. Right now he’s surfing around eBay to see what he can come up with and there’s a bid that’s currently at like $200 with $30 shipping that ends in about 29 minutes. However, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be a bid war in the next half hour either. So our thinking we can handle $250 will now turn into a $500 purchase, it’d be cheaper just to buy the Wii Bundle that Wal-Mart is offering.

We’re more than likely going to upgrade the television in the living room, this could mean either buying a larger one for Karen this Christmas OR getting it earlier on and again, just calling it a day. Right now the TV in the living room is probably 21″ and for multiple people playing on the Wii we’re going to have to upgrade. The TV that I got for free for my dad is 27″ and retails at around $300 so I know that it’ll be easy to find a nice one without an overly-expensive price tag. Karen has trouble seeing anything on an LCD screen so we’re going to keep the tube aspect, just a flat screened front for better viewing. I figure finding something in the 27″ to 32″ range should be more than suitable. I found a few on Sears that looked pretty good. There was a 30″ wide screen for like $549, that’s a current sale though but I know they really drop prices around November.

Sean is punching some numbers and wants to get one from an eBay seller that has the buy now, I’ve just heard of people purchasing consoles and only getting the box because they didn’t fully read the description. He did find one from a game store somewhere in the mid-west with 100% positive reviews out of the 600 some-odd transactions that feedback was left for so I think we may actually wind up purchasing it now, I’m sure I’ll have more feedback on this in a little while.

Moving back to NY?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Anyone who’s ever lived in New York knows how expensive it can be just to survive. If you’re someone who rents then you more than likely won’t get very far ahead on your bills and if you’re someone who owns their own home, unless it was passed down to you through generations you’re still going to drop a pretty penny on a regular basis.

I grew up in Glen Cove, while I’ll admit that getting out of there was the best possible thing for me, there are sections of the town that are absolutely gorgeous. Naturally, in order to live there you’re going to need to bring in at least $300,000 a year in the process.

Today I came across a resource in regards to Roslyn NY real estate. While I haven’t ever lived in Roslyn it’s only about 10 minutes away from my previous residence in Glen Cove. There are sections that are completely horrible, but for the most part it’s fairly gorgeous housing as well. Again, there are ritzy areas of Long Island and then there are what one would expect to see when they go to New York – slums.

So since Sean and I are working on buying our own home, I’ve naturally looked into where I’d feel the most comfortable. Unfortunately we don’t make enough combined income to be able to afford a mortgage up in New York therefor we’re going to remain outside of the Tri-State Area and either continue on our search here in Delaware, possibly move to Maryland or head out to Ohio, something I’m not too keen on but he’s persistent in trying to convince me to get out there.

I’ve finally made my decision.

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

So after finally getting a chance to talk to Adam, I’m confident that I’m making a good decision about school. I’ve decided upon Westwood Online. In total it’s probably going to run me in the $60,000 range but at the same time (after talking to Sean and working with his knowledge of financial aid and grants) I’m also confident that financial aid and grants offered through the school and other outside resources that I’ve been provided with will more than likely cover about half of the full tuition. So instead of hoping to get a $65,000 loan (I’m factoring in supplies here) I’ll only have to look into about $25,000-$30,000 which isn’t as bad as I originally thought it was.

I did some playing around with numbers and noticed that if I keep on the path I’m on, I’ll be bringing in about $45,000 a year and that’s just good enough for me. If I put the bulk of it into savings I should have the loan paid off before I even graduate and then I don’t have to worry about an excess interest payments.

I was considering taking the Web Design & Multimedia course but after talking to Sean I’m not too sure because he told me about how his step mother made some pretty decent money working only 4 hours a day at $80 an hour doing graphics design. Westwood also offers a Graphics Design & Multimedia course.

Adam explained to me that even with his Bachelors I still know more about actual web design than he does. After a quick look at the over-view of the course I found out that it’s all basic introduction based courses and there really is nothing new that I’ll be learning through that course. So now I believe I’m just going to go straight for the graphics design course. It’s all still in the same price range and I’ll be able to utilize the upcoming iMac purchase I’ll be making.

I’ve been talking quite a bit about that on AGn Designs lately but I’ve decided to take about $1600 and get a 20″ iMac that’s fully loaded, to my specifications naturally. I don’t have to worry about any excess crap. But I could also take the route of taking out a loan for school and take $3,000 of that and throw some major components into the larger 24″ iMac that, as of right now, is base-priced in the $2,000 range.

So here’s where I ask you to help me out. Should I wait for the loan or should I just get it now?

Maybe we’ll rent…

PPP While Sean and I have been considering purchasing our own home for quite some time now, we’ve also looked into houses for rent in the area as well. In the long run it may actually be cheaper for the time being but this doesn’t discount the fact that we’d like our own chunk of land to own in the process – you know?

We’ve been doing some poking around rentals.com and even though real estate is hot in the area at the moment, this doesn’t mean we’re going to be leaving during the summer season either. There’s currently homes for rent in the area that are about $500 a month which is a big discount from the $2500 a month apartment I was living in, in New York. We’d have to pay our own utilities and what not but at least we’d be in a home instead of worrying about apartment living and all the dumb rules and regulations that go with it.

I personally think we should just pool our income and get a home in the complex, but that’s based on whether or not we’re looking to spend about $50,000 on a house and then $1,000 a month in the bills. Either way we’d be spending about $1,000 a month on bills it’s just the question of dropping the big cash on the house itself…heh.

What would you suggest?

Talk about UNIQUE!

PPP Today I came across a company that offers everything from standard couches to home theater based setups. For a while now I’ve been talking about my dream home and everything I’d like to include. Knowing that from the get-go I’m not going to have any mouths to feed other than my fiance, I know we can spend some decent money here and there on things that we’ve both wanted for quite some time.

A kicker for me, naturally, is getting myself a pretty nice setup for when we have friends and family over. So of course the main concerns for me are the dining room, kitchen and living room being the setups of my dreams. Being as I’m turning into a movie buff and you can only lay on the couch for so long before it becomes annoying, I kind of want something different and what would be better than some kind of a home theater?

There’s a furniture store a few miles up the road that’s pretty big in Delaware, so big that people from Pennsylvania and Maryland even take the drive to shop there. They have three rooms setup with different theater seating based formats and I absolutely fell in love with one of them. It’s completely sound proof and loaded with surround sound capabilities. At the time there was a huge 40-something inch LCD screen playing some random movie that didn’t interest me but I do remember sitting in the chair and being able to feel every single rumble as though I’d just spent $10 on a movie ticket and was inside one of those larger theaters. Now, I know I’m never going to have enough money to get myself a screen as large as a movie theater but this doesn’t mean I won’t convert a basement into a major tourist attraction – heh.

Anyway, the site I found today has a pretty interesting store themselves. With parrots flying around, a play center for children and what Sean wound up drooling over was a 450″ television that is always playing in the background. They also have theater setups and what not but based on the parrot and the television alone – I’d seriously consider taking a trip down to Texas just to walk around this place.

A little late

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Even though our anniversary was on Saturday, tonight we’re actually going to celebrate with dinner and what not. Saturday would have been a bad night considering everyone is out and getting anywhere near a restaurant just isn’t possible. We figured on a Monday, even though it’s a summer vacation, it would be easier to get anywhere near some place. We’re more than likely going to The Olive Garden up in Salisbury.

It’s kind of strange though, even though it’s in the same price range as the restaurants we go to on a regular basis, we associate TOG with celebrations, something I’ve done for years now. My first time going there was with Joe, he took me on my birthday. Since then I’ve gone there on my birthday almost every year and now with Sean it’s an anniversary / birthday kind of a treat.

Does anyone else have a place that you associate with special occasions only?

Still kind of ‘blah’.

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

I’m still not feeling that great in regards to the family related issues but at the same time it is my anniversary I should at least get off my ass and enjoy the day with my fiance, you know?

Last night, before going to sleep, we took a quick trip to Super Fresh and picked up a few items for dinner tonight. I told him that since his gifts never got here that I’d make him dinner for our anniversary so he could pick anything he wants. He jokingly said that he wanted duck but there was no way in hell I was cooking one of those. He then went on to say chicken fried chicken with the white gravy the way they make it at Cracker Barrel and I said “Sure, no problem”. I picked up some chicken, potatoes and other veggies so that there’s at least something on the side of the breaded chicken. I don’t deep fry anything, I refuse to, so I’ll throw some plain breadcrumbs on the chicken and pop them in the oven in a little while. The problem now is that he wants mashed potatoes and those take a while to boil, so I’m going to hop on that now and hopefully we’ll be eating dinner by 9pm :sigh:

Much needed relaxing evening

Friday, July 20th, 2007

We wound up ordering out for dinner tonight because I’d forgotten to take some stuff out of the freezer to defrost so pizza seemed to be the only option. So while I sat here and got some work done, answering emails and what not, Sean went out to pick up the pizza and on his way back got the mail to find out that “Out to Sea” a movie he’d put on his blockbuster queue a while ago, showed up tonight. We plopped down in front of the TV for a few hours, enjoyed our pizza and laughed our asses off at the movie. Now it’s a little after midnight and we’re both back in the office getting some work done, well – I’m mainly starting on work for when I wake up in the morning. He just does what he does whenever he can, basically.

It’s my goal to at least get a PSD together for another template to put up on blog ideas. I’d like to have maybe four or five big templates – I don’t want to just hand out crappy CSS ones that are quick and simple for someone. I want them to have some kind of a style to them that isn’t really found on freebie templates, and trust me I’ve looked through many databases in order to know the route I’m going to take with these. I should probably boot up photoshop and get to work.

PPP When I buy my own house it’s important to me that the outside looks just as wonderful as the inside. Call it the interior designer in me but I do have many tricks up my sleeve, mixed with a budget, that will have me very happy with the way things turn out. One important thing for the outside of the house is landscaping, all aspects of it. The grass won’t be cut by the dorks who handle this community. I’ll gladly pay someone to come back once a week but I want to make sure that everything is done right. They leave approximately 4 inches of grass, meaning their blades don’t even touch the ground. That’s unacceptable to me so I’m going to pull out the white pages and ask around about the best people to go through.

A big thing for me, outdoors, is a porch. I’ve been used to having a rather large deck for the bulk of my life. I enjoy having a lot of room that isn’t on the grass to just relax in. Yes, grass is great and all but the last thing I want to do is sit on grass that’s wet from morning dew just so I can tan. Sean and I have drawn up a few plans here and there about how we’d like things to look and one thing we agreed upon was a built in gas grill and a spa, naturally we’d have to invest in Hot Tub Covers to avoid waking up with animals or children floating around in there. A beautiful deck doesn’t mean you have to skimp on safety, you know?

TheCoverGuy.com I did some surfing around the net and came across thecoverguy.com, they offer a five year warranty with their product and the covers can withstand harsh climates and it helps cut energy costs for running the spa because it keeps the heat in. They’re recognized as the number one hot tub cover or spa cover company in the industry and they deliver to all over the US and Canada.

They have some pretty nice looking covers too. They’re priced in the $300 range but that’s not half bad considering the spa would cost in the $3,000 range anyway. I’m not talking about purchasing some huge spa that can hold 10 people, granted it would be nice to have all of that room to relax in but I also do intend to have a pool if there’s enough room in the back yard for it. I’m just a picky person and know that I’m going to get everything I’m hoping for since I’m going to be working my butt off to get it. I’m not the type who’s going to sit back and spend my husbands money, I’m going to earn it myself, more than likely have a hand in building it and then going from there. But hey, that’s just me.

Taking on the US by storm!

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

When you’ve spent 22 years living in the same home you’re naturally itching to get out and travel a bit. Naturally when I met my fiance I found myself traveling up and down the eastern seaboard but I know for sure that I want something more. For many years now I’ve been itching to travel to another country, maybe even just get all 50 states under my belt as well. Finances have stopped me from doing this but I know that if I could get myself to the point of putting money into savings, here and there, specifically for traveling I’d make it a point to at least get all 50 states taken care of and then work on the other countries I’m interested in.

Sean and I have spoken, numerous times, about taking on the US territory by renting (or buying depending on finances) an RV. We could very easily take two months (maybe summer) and hit up all 48 states that you’re able to drive to, naturally. Then maybe sometime down the road we’ll work our way through Canada so we can get up to Alaska. I think the ultimate last place to travel to would be Hawaii, that would kind of be a gift in itself. I think that would be a pretty decent way to end a journey, don’t you?

If you had enough money to travel anywhere in the world – where would you go?

The price isn’t right.

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

I’ve been doing pretty well in regards to saving money for the last few days. Sean and I added some numbers together and realized that in the last month the two of us have spent over $1,000 going out to dinner. This isn’t cheapy McDonalds kind of purchases, we’re talking $60 a pop kind of meals on a regular basis. So we decided to tighten the purse strings and start eating home more.

I was doing pretty well. I went out the other night with Karen and we both did our grocery shopping for the week. I did have to make a quick run out tonight for items to have with dinner tomorrow night (roasted chicken) but I wound up spending over $70, not quite sure where it all went either. I know that about $12 went to cigarettes so I’m not counting that towards the purchase but it’s hard to believe that milk, butter and some small inexpensive things can all add up to about $60. I think the 4 for $11 on my soda didn’t go through the way it was supposed to, even with the membership card :hrm:
