It’s unfortunate

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Going into my vacation this weekend, there was a preexisting feeling of sadness. This past week I found out that my grandfather has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He’s going through testing, procedures and many other things that one couldn’t imagine. It’s hard when things like this happen. I lost my grandmother to breast cancer about 12 years ago (fathers mother), my other grandmother (mothers mother) has gone through extensive surgeries on her legs, to the point that the doctor nicked a nerve and that’s a long going lawsuit fallen upon a woman who can barely walk. My mother has been through a triple bypass surgery, my father has come home with so many staples in his head from work-related accidents that it’s just unreal – even this past weekend he’d torn some shin muscle making it hard for him to walk around the casino. It’s just a whole series of events that I can’t seem to piece together.

I’ve been very sick for the last couple of days and part of me wonders if stress played a factor in this. I come home after losing money to find that Bella is hurt, I was already exhausted and depressed because of it so now it’s just a series of crap all piling up on top of each other. Tonight I hobbled myself into Wal-mart so I could buy some replacement shades for the ones Bella has damaged over the last couple of weeks. She likes sitting in the window and has proven (three times over) that she’ll do anything to get up there. I probably should take a picture of the damage she did to the rug while we were gone as well.

However, I realized today that wasn’t entirely her fault. A few weeks ago Baby seemed to be on a mission to find something and decided to cut a section of the rug to look underneath (I don’t know why, I also refused to ask). That strip happened to be right outside the bedroom door which made it easy for her to pull the rug back. Because of the she was able to easily destroy it. So right now the blame is basically on the two of them. Either way she’s no longer limping and he still won’t take any blame what-so-ever for the fact that I’m extremely ill.

I’m working on linking Thunderbird from my external hard drive, this way I can run the same email off both the desktop and the laptop. I’m sick of sitting in the office listening to Halo3 Beta gunshots and him yammering into the microphone with people he doesn’t even know…heh. I never understood the gaming world, oh well.

Off I go.

Sick = SUCKS

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

I knew that I jinxed myself today when I decided to blow my nose. Typically, when I feel a head cold coming on, I know that once I blow my nose it just won’t stop. Now I can’t even breath out of my nose and it’s bothering the crap out of me. Baby is convinced that he isn’t the reason I got sick. Meanwhile he was sick last week and since our bed is as small as it is, wound up breathing on me for 8+ hours a night, so yes – I blame him. He’s busy playing some video game, I don’t even know if he got any work done today, honestly. I don’t care how important it is to play the Beta version of a game but I will tell you this, he can be ass deep in bullets but he’s going to the store to get me some tissues and decongestant – no question about it.

I’m not quite sure if I have a fever or not but I do know that if I stand up I wind up having to sit back down because I’m too dizzy. I also know that with the time spent with Kay this weekend, she’s also under the weather. The only one who had contact with both of us was HIM…maybe he’ll learn to fess up to it.

I just hope I don’t give Bella a cold, she’s having enough trouble as is at the moment. She can sleep in the living room with him tonight. I don’t want either one of them near me, for completely different reasons of course but at least I get to sleep alone. I don’t want her sick and I don’t want him on me cause we’ll just keep bouncing the cold back and forth until it eventually kills us both.

I need NyQuil :grr:

World Travel: Ecuador

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

lagunaquilotoa.jpg I have a pretty bad head cold, Baby won’t fess up to the fact that he was the one who gave it to me. I’m seriously considering shipping him off to the Galapagos Islands because of it. It’s not like he’d completely hate it though. Doing some surfing around TheEcuaTraveler.com I came up with some pretty interesting travel links. There’s some fairly decent Spanish schools down there, plenty of scenery and the site itself is very well put together. It was a little hard for me to navigate at first, I couldn’t really tell which was a Google ad and which was actual content. Once I figured it out, however, their travel destinations are pretty gorgeous.

One that stood out for me was the Laguna Quilotoa. A quick description of it had me kind of interested in learning more.

Laguna Quilotoa is a beautiful volcanic-crater lake located about 35km west of Latacunga. The Laguna is about one mile in diameter and its amazing green color changes throughout the day as the sunlight hits it from different directions. On clear mornings the Ilinizas can be seen to the north and Cotopaxi to the east.

I’d say it’s a destination worth checking out, for future world travel of course.

Atlantic City – Here I come!

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

I woke up about 6am so that I could get myself ready to hop on the Cape May/Lewes Ferry at it’s 9am departure towards Cape May. After that I’ll be spending about an hour in the car and stopping at the beautiful Harrah’s Hotel & Casino. Baby and I are both excited because this is one of our first real vacations together. I set myself up in the Bayview tower, which is the new one that they were building the last time I went to A.C., I hear it’s actually pretty gorgeous inside so I’m anticipating it. It’ll be nice to sleep in a bed that doesn’t kill my back, I’ll tell you now that even if I don’t win any substantial amount of money as I did last time, just sleeping on a good mattress for a few nights will be completely worth it.

Dad will make his appearence around 3pm. I have to make it a point to be by the doors around that time so hopefully I’ll be able to find my watch, I’ve been searching for it all morning (Update: Found it, w00t!).

I still have a few things to do around the house, there’s about an hour left before we leave and I need to get the bedroom in order for Bella because she’ll be locked in there until tomorrow evening. Baby’s mom is going to make it a point to let her out for us on Sunday so that she isn’t cooped up in the room the whole weekend. I just need to throw some extra food and water down and then I’m sure she’ll be fine.

It’s going to be a litte bit difficult to stick to diets this weekend but I also know that each floor in Bayview towers is about 1/4 mile, so I may wind up walking the halls for a little while to get in my solid 4 miles a day. I know I’ll be doing a lot of walking around the casino but that’s mainly stop and go kind of walking, nothing consecutive.

Once my father meets up with us we’re probably going to head to Showboat and Caesar’s, I have quite a few comps to cash in on. I’m actually going to have to travel around for all three days based on all of the comps I have. There’s 3 to be done today, a few for Sunday and then probably 4 or 5 to be played on Monday before we start the long drive back home. I would have liked to take the ferry home, especially considering the moon rise, but then we’d have to leave around 5PM and if anyone has been on the Garden State Parkway at rush hour then you can understand my wanting to wait. We’ll just have to do our 2 hours in the car down the Jersey Turnpike – that should be HEAPS of fun…I swear.

In any event, I should get my butt in gear. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. It’s supposed to be some gorgeous weather for the next few days so hopefully you can all get out in the sun and soak up some vitamin D!

I’m extremely excited, I really hope that I have good news to come home and share.

Moving around.

Friday, May 11th, 2007

When we get back from the casino, Baby and I are planning on moving the rooms around. We figured that if we have money coming home with us (winnings or breaking even – whichever) we’ll be better off just moving the rooms once instead of having to break everything down twice. We’ve been surfing around the net and making sure to keep track of all of the online coupons codes so that we’re able to get some very solid discounts on the items we’re purchasing.

We’re going to get two new desks, he’s getting two monitors and I’ll eventually be purchasing a fully loaded iMac for all of my design needs. I just need to get my hands on a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS for Mac. I have three disks (some people just hand things to me for no reason) for Photoshop 7 (x2) and CS2. It’s not illegal copies either, full version software in original packaging. While I’m very happy about this, that doesn’t help my Apple dilema…heh.

When it comes to furniture, we’re a small bit torn. While purchasing a few desks from places like Best Buy, Staples or wherever else would be a good resource for office equipment, I find myself drawn to Home Depot, because I’d seriously prefer to build one myself. There’s plenty of room for it and I know if I can build to my specifications that it’ll make life a bit easier. I’m sure we’ll wind up with a prebuilt system though. I’ve been seriously looking into LAN stations but I was unaware of just how expensive they can get, too bad there aren’t any coupons codes available for those sites.

Movie Addicts READ THIS!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

While I don’t exactly condone it, Baby spends a lot of time and money on movies, most of which he hasn’t watched but has tucked away in his binder. Just recently he decided to write down all of his movie collection in a notebook thinking that it would be easier to get through everything. I don’t think that was the best idea considering he’s got a few hundred DVD’s to go through and a notebook doesn’t have a ‘search’ option.

During my usual daily poking around the ‘net, I came across a movie catalog software that offers so many features for your movies it’s unreal. With this program you can import information from internet movie databases, they have a barcode option for those with a scanner so the movie is instantly added to their database with literally the click of a button. You can search through your movies and even take screen caps FROM the movie and use them in your listing. Some people can remember things better from the movie than they can the box it came in. I just think that’s an awesome idea. There’s ALSO an HTML export option so you can list them on your personal/collective website and many other features that one can only imagine.

I just told him about this program and now he’s literally jumping for joy stating how badly he wants the program. If he doesn’t buy it for himself, I may just buy it for him. It’s only $35 for a single-user copy and with all of the movies he has, this’ll just make his life very easy – and mine in the long run. This is a pretty awesome program. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I can’t wait to download it.

Slow Day

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I wasn’t feeling well today so it kind of messed up my drive to really accomplish anything. I did, however, get a few new domains in order for a future launch. One is a weight loss blog and the other is a blog resource for both professional and standard journaling bloggers. I used to visit a site called blogideas.com, they only gave you a few random topics for blog entries in case you had writers block. I’m going a bit further with it though. I’m going to offer everything from blog topics to blog templates, blog resources and other common misconceptions about blogging that some may not understand.

I’ve hired Sean to help me out with things. I know he’s been programming a fairly large site so I got on his good side and asked him to help me program the database for this. I’m already designing things as far as the administration panel is concerned, the template for the site itself is already done. I’m sure I could do a bit of the programming but with the design business being so busy lately, I had to bring in outside help. I’ve been playing around, quite a bit, with the new Web 2.0 styles (larger lettering, 3d effects, etc) it’s turning out to look pretty nice. I hope to have everything launched by June. I figure giving myself a deadline will kick my ass into gear.

I should probably get going, Baby isn’t feeling well and I should go spend some time with him in front of the T.V. before we both wind up falling asleep. My eyes are already starting to close on me at the moment, I hate that feeling.

Switch-a-roo!

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

I need to get myself over to Wal-mart before we go on vacation. The blinds in the bedroom are broken and the last thing I need is for someone to be able to scope out the place while we’re gone. Right now there’s the typical white plastic blinds in there but I’m really interested in getting something different. The problem is that we’re going to be changing the rooms around so now I don’t really know if I’m going to be searching for blinds for the new bedroom or for the one we’re in now. It’s pretty annoying.

We both decided that since the office is very cramped that it would be a better idea to change it over to the bedroom. There is an upside to this, however. The bedroom is MUCH larger than the office and since all of his clothes and things are already in there, he can keep his crap in there and I can get some shelves up for the closet in here. I won’t need a dresser because I can always get some fabric lined baskets and keep my unmentionables in there. It’s a fairly decent sized closet, not as large as Baby’s but my clothes easily pile up nicely on shelves. He’s anal retentive about having everything hung up. Most of my daily clothes can be folded considering they’re primarily t-shirts in every shape and color imaginable.

There’s just enough room in here to fit a king-sized bed and enough wall space so we can put my TV on the wall and maybe some shelving for my light collections. I have quite a few ‘funky’ kind of lamps that I think would look great if they were actually on a shelf down here.

He won’t let me paint the new bed room, even though I’d spend more time in there than he does. Maybe I can convince him in the future or something – I don’t know. For now, at least, I know I’ll have my own closet so that’ll keep me happy for a while anyway…heh.

Well…ain’t that something.

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

I actually completed what I set out to do. I made a run outside with my shovel and my gloves and now the plants are hanging, every so beautifully, on the porch. It looks a little bare though, there aren’t any flowers around the house yet – it’s mainly bushes that don’t die seasonally. I just hope that something comes up soon because I’m itching to watch something bud!

With all the cooking I did last night, I made it a point to put some sauce on the side because Baby is interested in having chicken parmesan tonight. He got upset when I said I’d do something else, such a sucker for chicken – he really is…LOL. So I guess I’ll get started on that now, this way I can continue with the rest of my day while those are in the oven.

Remodeling: Kitchens

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

With all the plans that Baby and I have been making, it’s obvious that the house we’ll eventually purchase is going to be a big project for both of us. We both want different things that will kind of blend well together. I want a large bedroom and an even larger kitchen with loads of counter space and storage. He wants a big office and a game room with a huge TV, surround sound, the works. Me, on the other hand, I just look for things of major importance. He loves to eat and I love to cook, obviously a kitchen is a big deal – for any Italian respectively.

I know, for a fact, that I’m not going to get the kitchen of my dreams from the get go but that’s when you call in Kitchen Remodeling Contractors to do the work for you. It’s just hard to find a trustworthy and dependable contractor. A lot of them do horrible jobs and come with a huge price tag. The worst ones don’t even give you what you want out of purely being too lazy to do it. If I’m going to be spending top dollar on something I’ve always dreamed of, I want to go with a company that’s going to get my kitchen to where I want it to be.

Home improvement projects can be stressful, especially when it comes to finances. Selecting the right general contractor can be challenging but getting yourself tapped into a resource like OnCallContractors is a pretty cool idea. They’ve setup an elite group of contractors to assist homeowners based on their home improvement needs. I just minutes they can connect you with a pre-screened contractor to ensure that they’re skilled to handle every one of your home improvement needs. All of their contractors are licensed and insured. That’s the best kind of person to work with. Don’t depend on your cousin Joe to do the work for you, go with a professional. In the end…you have to live there and professionals make it a point to make you happy, no question about it.

Six Days!

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Atlantic City is six days away and I’m nervous because I’m sure I won’t win as well as I did the last time but I get to spend some much needed time with my father so it’ll even itself out. I have to remind myself that I have to call him to bring a few books down with him that I left at the house. I can’t believe I actually moved 3 states away with out my damn cook books. What was I thinking?

I did fairly well today as far as dieting is concerned. I stuck to it as much as I could, I did chug down some lemonade but that was at a moment of complete weakness and the rush of sugar kind of made my head spin. I’ve been drinking crystal light for so long that I almost forgot what sugar tasted like. I won’t make that mistake again though, that’s for sure. I’m working on getting baby into this too but he’s so set in his ways that I don’t know if it’s going to work. I guess if I keep pushing him, something will happen.

A few very busy days of work coming up for me, I’m psyched about it because that means more money to play with in A.C., Yep…I’m addicted but not to the point of wiping my life savings. I’ll go up there with the $1,000 goal I gave myself and just enjoy everything I can. I just hope I hit to big pots the way I did the first time ::Crosses Fingers::

All alone.

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Baby just put himself to sleep. He was up for a bit longer than I was today so it’s only natural that he’d fall asleep first. I’m sure I’ll be turning in soon myself but there’s a lot of things to get done. I’m still annoyed about what happened earlier with the advertisers but since I’ve got quite a bit of posting to do, that money should be made back rather quickly anyway. After a few weeks of putting it off, I’ve finally transferred all of my money to my bank account. I would have preferred to just leave it in Paypal but for some reason my damn card hasn’t shown up yet (it’s been three weeks!) Paypal is telling me to activate it but it’s kind of hard to activate something that I don’t have, you know? I know it couldn’t have been stolen by someone in NY because it’s a redirect to down here. So I know my sister or one of her asshole friends couldn’t get a hold of it. I guess I’ll have to call them soon and have things taken care of. It’s in my bank account either way, guess it doesn’t matter much.

Diamonds are a girls BEST friend!

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

Baby and I have been talking about marriage quite a bit. We have both agreed to hold off on it for a little while so we can get our lives in order, but I also know that he’s full of surprises. During my usual daily surf I came across a site for Engagement Rings and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with their database. They have everything from simple Diamond Rings to Wedding Rings.

Now, I grew up with a jewelry store in the family so I know a thing or two about diamonds and I have to say that the quality of rings on this site should be held in pretty high regard. They have a great section from .5 carats to 4 carat rings, every possible shape and beautiful cuts. Even the clarity options are gorgeous. You can completely design your own ring on this site, most jewelry stores will give you this option but sometimes you’re limited with what you can do. This site gives you full control no matter what you’re looking to setup.

Engagement Rings Platinum/Diamond Me, being a girl, obviously I’m dropping hints about which would be the best one to have, I’m also very picky about what I put on my finger. Oddly enough, however, one that was previously designed is the one that I absolutely fell in love with. I couldn’t figure out how to design it myself though. The ring I found is a diamond/platinum combination that’s very nicely put together. Some may think it’s a bit over the top but any girl who was handed something like this would probably swoon, no matter how simple they were. It’s a very clean line ring that gives you anything you could ask for.

Quest for May Flowers

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I did a little shopping today. Kay needed some ink for her printer and while Baby was in Staples, I found myself in the supermarket going through meat and what not. I picked up a few hanging plants, both of which need to be transferred to other baskets because the containers don’t really match the rest of the house. While one of them IS white, just changing the brown one over wouldn’t look right because then the pots wouldn’t match. Since there are a few pots in the kitchen just waiting to be used outside (they’re also closed off on the bottom so they don’t leak) I figure it’ll be easier to just change them over. They’re pretty pink flowers, didn’t read the names of them but once the garden has grown a little bit I’m sure I’ll have some pictures up. I would go out there now and take one but the sky has opened up, and thankfully it happened only a few minutes before I was going to go outside and water the grass. Yay for making it an easy day. I don’t have to waste water now. :w00t:

Exhaustion kicked in.

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I told myself, countless times, that I was going to fall asleep by midnight – 2am at the absolute latest. It’s now a little after 3am and the exhaustion has just finally kicked in. I do believe it had a lot to do with the walk Baby and I just took though. We wound up going back and forth because Bella loves to explore and kept going back and forth like a drunk who can’t walk a straight line. She’s cute about it though. In a few days she’s going to the groomer and there will be no more fluffy-puppy, at least for a few months or so. It has to be done, however, summer is coming up and if she’s going to be outside as much as she usually is in the summer, she’s going to have to lose some hair or sweat to death – I wouldn’t want this to happen.

Tomorrow is a big cleaning day, I did a lot in the kitchen this afternoon but that fridge is screaming for me. The dining room table could use some cleaning as well. The damn thing is a glass-top table so even if no one sits there, one finger print just seems to keep re-smearing itself. I want to pick up some new place mats too, they’re only about $1.50 at the supermarket in their seasonal section – there were some pretty colors floating around as well. Maybe that’ll be a future purchase for me, who knows. All money from this point on is casino based anyway…heh.

Welp, guess it’s time for my head to hit the pillow…it’s already starting to droop down like my neck is about to give out. :ugh:

Night all!

7 Days!

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

Atlantic City is coming up a lot sooner than I’d thought. It’s already May 5th and we’re leaving on the 12th. I’m excited, I really can’t wait for it. It’ll be nice to spend quality time with the boyfriend but it’ll be even more nice to see my Dad. He’s got a few vacation days to cash in on and when I told him to meet me in Atlantic City (midway point) he jumped on the opportunity. I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun, I’ve only ever been there with my aunt so it’ll be nice to see how he interacts in a larger environment. I’ve gone to Mohegan Sun with him, Atlantic City is MUCH larger though. Many casinos, lots of nice shopping and plenty of cool people to talk to while you’re floating around the slots. Kay also gets the chance to meet my dad so this should also be rather interesting…heh. Yea, I know; Baby and I are living together and our parents haven’t met – we’re also adults so it’s not that big of an “OH NO!” so :pfft:

Baby hasn’t ever been to a casino, well…not until recently when we went up to Dover Downs and lost $60 in about a half hour. I’m sure that’s got him feeling pretty timid about going but he also knows how important it is for me to see my father so hopefully he’ll be able to enjoy himself.

It’s going to be a time crunch though, I need to be out of here by 8AM so we can drive up to Lewes and catch the 9AM ferry to Cape May, then it’s about a half hours drive north to get to A.C. I just need to check-in by noon or I’m at risk for being charged for my compt rooms. Usually I wouldn’t be so “ehh” about it, it’s just going to be a weekend so even with a reservation it’s good to get there early. There are people who show up last minute and bribe their way in. If there’s enough people doing it, they’d charge you to hold the room.

Early bird gets the worm, you know?
