Been kinda busy…

Friday, June 1st, 2007

My inbox has around 1,000 messages in it and this can only mean that I’ve been absent from the internet for a few days. For the past couple of weeks baby and I have been putting off changing the rooms around until after he got some money in to buy his mother a new computer for her birthday. On Wednesday he came into the living room after I’d woken up and asked me if I wanted to start changing things around. He said he’d ordered the computer and now he’s got enough time to take a break and we can get things in order. We were unaware of just how long this was going to take. You don’t realize how much crap is piled up in one little room until you start transferring everything over to another room.

On Tuesday I went to the Salvation Army with Kay because she likes floating around stores like that looking for new and interesting things. While I’m a big fan of getting a deal on things, I’m not a fan of ‘used’ items. For a while now I’ve been eying this desk that I saw in Staples, maybe it was Big Lots not sure I remember. I was putting some money aside knowing that I’m going to be buying it when the rooms were moved (I was setup on a folding table in the office because of the lack of space). While we were at the Salvation Army, however, I came across a LAN desk and my jaw dropped. I’d been looking into a desk like this for the last few years but it’s about $200 no matter where I’d gone. It was $55 at the store and it’s literally in excellent condition. There isn’t a dent or a ding on it. It’s fresh out of the box – NEW.

So when Baby said we were moving the rooms around I jumped at the fact that I had a desk in mind and we needed to go pick it up. We moved all of the crap out of the bedroom and transferred all of the office equipment over and after two days of moving things, hanging shelves and lifting heavy boxes and books – we’re finally done. My desktop is setup on a brand new desk, I bought myself a chair from Staples that’s actually pretty comfortable and the cool thing about this desk is the fact that Bella has more than enough room to hang out on it and she’s not even close to being in my way. It’s also large enough for future purchases. I’m going to be purchasing a second monitor because when I’m using Adobe, windows that I need to use regularly kind of get in the way. I’m also going to be buying my iMac in the near future as well.

Baby setup my monitor on his desktop because I noticed that certain fonts weren’t showing up that well for me. Considering I know that every other computer I’ve used with those fonts seems to work well – I wanted to assume it was the graphics card. Quick trial and error proved me right and now I’m going to have to dip into funds for a graphics card as well. I’m going to need about $2,000 for everything – shouldn’t be too hard to get considering I’ve got clients pending and about $500 in posts coming to me as well.

For now I have some work to do. I really should get my ass in gear on some laundry. I’m probably going to have some pictures of the new setup later on. It’s really the office setup I’ve always wanted, we just couldn’t accomplish it in the other room considering how small it is. The new bedroom (old office) works much better now. I finally have my own closet and the only thing in there at this point is the television, bella’s toys and our bed. It flows much nicer too.

Okay, now I’m really going to get my ass in gear. So there’s the update that two people emailed me about. I’m not one to apologize because I haven’t posted – I kind of find that pathetic – but it’s strange that people really do stop by 3+ times a day knowing that I update regularly. If I disappointed you, sorry but there’s a life off line that’s far more important.

Themes, Birthdays, Power Issues?

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

I’ve spent some time today working on my June theme. Everything template wise is completed, I just have to work in all of the content pages because with all of the alterations I’ve made to the template over the last few months, just to run a theme here it requires about 30 template pages. Yes, I know that’s crazy but oh well.

I’m still not feeling very well but I know for sure that it’s my own fault. Last night I had a little too much to drink (it was a holiday after all) and wound up crashing around 9, waking up around 12 to then fall back to sleep. I think I got about 15 hours in total since last night and while it’s great to catch up on sleep it’s really strange waking up so late in the afternoon and still being exhausted.

The power keeps dipping and I honestly have no idea why. Hopefully the power isn’t going to go out but there’s some wind outside and Baby told me that the power down here goes out pretty frequently. Something tells me that once our rooms are moved around we’re going to be working off battery backups on the surge protectors. He’s close to ordering Kay’s gift, once the money transfers out of Paypal at least. I’m sure it’s already in his bank account at the moment but I think he’s busy Beta testing at the moment so who knows what’s happening. He’s got until the 5th, at the latest, to order for her considering you have to factor in shipping and her birthday is on the 12th. :crosses fingers:

I also need to get some money together for her gift, I know exactly what she wants so it won’t be hard to shop for her. I know I’ve got some payments coming through so I’m not concerned. There’s also a few hundred in my account set aside for birthdays anyway.

Executive Coaching

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

PPP Kay works for a complete moron. He bought the company a few years ago and it instantly went from a success to a pile of wood. He knows nothing about how to run a business, nor does he know how to handle employees. People have been fired for reasons as stupid as “They’re too smart for their position”. A girl was recently fired because she knew too much about what she was doing. Some people believe she tapped into something that the owner was doing and was fired because she knew too much about something that’s more than likely highly illegal. The real lesson here is, however, someone seriously needs to stand outside of this place and let the customers know that they’re never going to actually receive anything they order so it would be a smart idea to not even bother stepping foot into the building. Products have been on back order for the last 6 months and most of the vendors even have the company on HOLD because he hasn’t been able to pay the bill. Makes you wonder where the money is actually going, it sure as heck isn’t going to the employee’s considering most of them aren’t even getting their paychecks.

The thing he really needs is something called Executive Coaching, which should be important for any corporation. The Forte Institute is the global leader in the development and delivery of the strengths-based understanding of human personality as it relates to the personal understanding of interpersonal communications. I know it all seems like a lot of big words but their main goal is really team building programs which is very important for any corporation. It’s easier to run a tight-knit business if everyone is working on the same page. Training from The Forte Institute can really help you run your business and your employees with 100% ship-shape efficiency.

It’ll be a GREAT day for someone…

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

PPP is still running their Tuesday prizes. I never got my hands on anything in April, nor have I in May so I’m not even going to bother looking for todays opportunity. They’re giving away a Sony 50″ Grand WEGA LCD HDTV and while that seems like a great prize, I don’t have anywhere to put the thing unless I get rid of the boyfriend heh. I’m not lucky enough to get my hands on gifts like these anyway, even if I did happen to find the opportunity – I’d be too slow about it and wouldn’t get it anyway.

I heard that last weeks op was up for an hour before someone took it. I’m having a small issue with PPP at the moment though. I understand it’s very popular but there are opportunities listed that aren’t accepting any more blogs. And while it’s great that the advertiser got his moneys worth – it’s hard for posties to actually find a listing that they’re eligible for. I don’t mind doing the $5 listings, I do mind that there aren’t even any of those available. I seriously think that PPP should consider altering their database so that if all posts are already taken – the opportunity is removed from the public listing. But hey, that’s just the programmer in me talking. It’s not like it would be hard to code, I just don’t understand the point in teasing people with ops that they can’t even do.

I don’t know, I’m sure eventually they’ll do something about it – who knows.

Everyone POUNCES on the $10+ ops and while those are great to get, most of the time it’s based on topics that NO ONE would naturally speak about without getting paid. While I admit to enjoying paid blogging, I also make it a point to only have an opinion about topics of interest to me. Someone asked me recently if I would have had the same opinion on something if I wasn’t being paid about it and I can honestly say that yes I would. Before I was involved in paid blogging, I was writing up product reviews for everything that I personally found interesting/helpful, there’s nothing wrong with getting something out of it, but that doesn’t mean the payment is altering my views on things either.

Wirefly Strikes Again!

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Many people go through Wirefly.com to get their cellphones. I don’t blame them either considering they’ve turned into one of the hottest resources on the internet for all of your mobile needs. They’ve got a new Top 10 list, it’s seasonal too considering it’s the Spring 2007 season. Their list includes everything from the Motorola to Samsung. I personally find the Motorola Razr to be the best phone out there but that’s because of the fact that I’ve been desperately eying this phone for the last couple of years. Even though I’m not on the phone very often, one day I WILL own this thing. The list they’ve put up is pretty extensive, and rightly so considering all the phones on there are pretty interesting, help them out by hitting Digg this story! because all hits are good hits and going through Digg is a huge thing these days. I just think it’s cool they came up with the Spring 2007 list. I hope they continue making lists like these every season, it’ll give people an excuse to drool over more technological goodness.

Isn’t TODAY the holiday?

Monday, May 28th, 2007

It’s pretty warm outside at the moment. It’s pushing about 90°F and it’s fixing to be one of the hotter days of the year so far, at least by my standards. Considering it’s memorial day, I was kind of expecting there to be more activity going on in the complex. I think since yesterday was a gorgeous Sunday and people typically work on Monday’s that may have played a roll in it. Either way tonight I’d like to barbecue again so I think I’m going to have to sweet talk Baby a bit. Last night he wound up cooking all of the burgers and since he wanted to go out and get more Mai Tai mix anyway – I figure a run to the store wouldn’t be that bad of an idea anyway.

Borrowing Money

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Before things started to settle down for me, financially, I was seriously considering applying for a student loan to use towards college. The problem is that while I would only need to borrow around $7,000 I wouldn’t have anyone to co-sign the loan considering my off-the-books income and I no longer live anywhere near my father. I don’t think you can get away with cosigning a loan with someone who’s 5 hours away.

I know a few people who have actually gone through with the student loan process now they’re working on student loan consolidation programs because they’re bogged down with payments and fees that were just thrown on at the end of the agreement in very small print. After a studen graduates they’re often faced with the financial burden of dealing with student loan payments. If you miss even one payment it can seriously harm your credit. Consolidating student loans can be beneficial to students’ credit rating, but it’s important to note that not all federal student loan consolidation companies report their loans to all credit bureaus.

In the end, it’s not hard to come up with $7,000 and I wouldn’t be putting my credit at risk in order to do it. It would take me maybe 2 months at the rate that business is coming in these days. It’d be much easier to take the non-loan route for me.

Very slow start…

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Kay is taking advantage of her extra days off and painting her bathroom. She’s got everything taped off and now she’s going through the utility room getting the rollers, brushes and paint ready. Baby hasn’t been much help because he’s in a bad mood today so asking him a question is kind of like pulling teeth.

Yesterday was bath day for the dogs. Princess and Candy both recieved much needed scrub downs. Candy hadn’t had a bath in a very long time so she was a little on the oily side, now she’s fluffy and adorable and it actually looks as though she’s got more hair. With Princess, since her hair is as short as it is, you can’t really tell that she’s gotten a bath other than the fact that she no longer stinks and her hair is actually a bit softer.

I was side-tracked yesterday. I knew I was supposed to give Bella a bath but I guess I just had other things in the way. I’m more than likely going to be cleaning out the kitchen today so I’m sure I can throw her in the sink quick during some down time, she’s pretty good about staying in there once you can actually GET her in there. I’m sure I’ll get around to that later, I don’t have much of a drive to do anything right now.

Men and Cars!

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Baby has been working very hard on an up and coming social networking site. The guy he’s working for has written a book and is a marketing genius so baby is confident that this is going to be a successful venture for him. There are already a few advertisers in place and if everything goes smoothly, he’s eventually coming into quite a bit of money. With this, he’s considering buying a new car.

His current car has over 150,000 miles on it, he’s had quite a bit of work done to it to keeping it running but the other night it wouldn’t start and that had us a little scared into thinking we’d have to change some plans around and make a car the first priority. The thing about him, however, is if he does happen to get a new car he wants to keep the current one and modify it a little bit. It’s in desperate need of a paint-job, this I won’t deny but he also wants to put on a SPOILER (which I find to be extremely ugly on cars), he’d probably even go as far as throwing on a wood grain steering wheel which I’m also not too fond of, but that’s because I’m really a fan of factory defaults. I don’t understand how someone could spend a lot of money into car modification – then again, I’m not a man either and 90% of the time they take more pride in their cars than they do their own appearance – freaky right?

So while he was looking for car ideas, we came across yocar.com. They’ve got everything from wood dash kits to rear spoilers. I poked around the site for a little while and the cool thing is they’ve got video tutorials on how one would go about installing these products. I personally think if you’re going to do any modifications on a car, go to a professional but that’s based on the fact that Joe attempted to setup some kind of a velvet dash kit on his car and wound up destroying it. He was also known for taking all interior off the doors and kind of…leaving it there lol. So this of course is why I’m recommending that Baby see a professional but if he wants to take pride in his work, at least I know there’s going to be a video resource for him to reference back to.

Nothing to do … and I hate it!

Monday, May 28th, 2007

I slept rather late today but that’s based on the fact that I’m not feeling very well. I don’t know if it was the food or the booze from last night but my head and my stomach are both screaming at me right now. I’m having trouble concentrating because Bella insists on being right on top of me so that’s just another thing adding to my list of annoyances.

I don’t have any design work to do today, that’ll give me enough time to get some work done on the June template, do some posting on curvy-chick and maybe get my ass in gear on blog-ideas.com, I should really get some templates together for it but I think the actual site content would be more important than the give-aways anyway.

I find it hard to get myself in gear on free templates, with all of the templates I create and don’t bother to use you’d think it would be easier to change the PDF and .zip it up with a small screen shot on the site but I guess I’ll get that all taken care of sooner or later.

I have some email and shit to go through, guess I should get that done.

Rethinking things…

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Part of me thinks that it was a mistake having my email being linked from both computers. Yes, as far as keeping track of everything is concerned it’s nice to have it linked off the external hard drive but there’s such a lag going on with the network that it’s making it very difficult for me.

At first I thought it was my spy ware program because it scans the email as its downloaded but I disabled it and there’s still a pretty nasty lag. I’m unsure of what to do at this point other than stopping the transfer and only having email on one of my computers. I don’t personally like that idea considering I’d rather not have two PC’s on at once but I don’t know if I’m going to have a choice in the near future if this keeps up. Maybe things will be different when we get the rooms rearranged. There’s a chance that I’ll be back in the office a bit more once things aren’t so cramped. I need to get myself a desk and a new chair. I found a really nice desk in Big Lots for about $120. There was enough room on the top shelf for 3 monitors, a pull out drawer underneath for the keyboard/mouse and a shelf on the side for the tower so I don’t have to worry about it being on the floor anymore. Static electricity is pretty bad for computers and at the rate of static build up in this house, it’ll be a safer way to do things.

After things slow down with birthdays, I guess we’ll start working on things. Baby has assured me that once he buys Kay’s birthday gift the rooms will be moved around. That’s the only reason he’s been working as hard as he’s been. The problem at the moment, however, is I think he’s playing Halo. I’m not sure but I’m almost positive that he’ll come out here sometime in the near future and tell me exactly what he’s doing considering he checks my site every day – heh.

[update – yep, he was lol]

Have you bid yet?

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Has anyone checked out Bid4Prizes.com? They’re actually pretty damn cool. You can enter to win cars, cash and other hot items just by submitted the lowest unique bid via cellphone or Bid4Prizes.com. The lowest unique bid for every prize starts out at one penny, but if more than one person bids a penny then that penny is no longer the lowest unique bid, two cents would now be the lowest. If more than one person bids for 2 cents, then it’s bumped to three cents – and so on, and so forth. The winning bid could be anything from one penny, to $1.07 to even $401.32, whomever has the lowest unique bid with absolutely no copy cats then you win the prize for that amount. The cool thing is, if you do happen to win the bid you don’t have to spend any money to win the prize. If you happen to win being the lowest unique bid then the prize is completely free. bid4prizes.com will even pay for the shipping. Note that state tax is different for everyone so you may have to pay taxes on your winnings but considering you’re getting ht item for free, I’d say being fair about it isn’t so wrong.

New Resource: Parenting Teens

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

PPPPPPHaving teenagers isn’t easy on any parent. The constant mood swings and unappreciative behavior towards everything is typical in daily life. I know a few mothers that spent a lot of time reading books on how to ‘fix’ their children and they’d then sit there and wonder why nothing ever worked. Proper education is a factor in anything but when it comes down to it, you raised the child so you should know at some point how to deal with your child. For those whom can’t figure it out – however – there are sites like parentingteens.com which offer you a series of resources and advice to get you through the day. One of their articles is about self esteem education. Self esteem is a pretty big problem for many teens, not many parents know how to deal with it. I know my parents didn’t. Then again, part of my self-esteem issues growing up was the fact that I never really had a mother around, but that’s besides the point.

For the parents that actually ARE there for their children, however, ParentingTeens.com focuses on a variety of problems but it’s primarily designed to help parents with troubled teens. It could be a valuable resource to help you get through the difficult times.

I’m feeling something…

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

I’m not quite sure but I think the rum is starting to kick in. It’s a shame too considering I haven’t even started on the wine yet. I picked up some Strawberry Arbor Mist, which is probably my absolute favorite wine in the world. Baby overloaded his cup with rum but that’s typical for him. He’s been nursing it for most of the night. I don’t think he realized just how good Mango Rum can really be. I mixed up much lighter versions of it though, Kay really enjoyed it too.

I use the Magic Bullet which is the best “As Seen on TV” investment I’ve ever made. I filled up the cups with ice and then threw in a splash of rum, filled the rest in with the mai tai mix. A few seconds in the blender to crush up the ice and voila – perfect mix. I just made myself a mix with the Arbor Mist, it’s basically like watered down wine but I kind of like chewing on the ice so no big deal there.

New Resource: ElectricLadyLand

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

I like when I come across new sites. While part of me doesn’t really care what celebrities do, finding resources that they also use is kind of interesting to me. I came across electricladyland.com, which sells everything from clothing to candles. They’re located in Arizona but based on reviews they have a lot of celebrity clients and carry couture brands. They mostly sell brands like True Religion and Rock & Republic Jeans. They’ve also got Tarina Tarantino Jewelry, which is pretty interesting looking. It’s primarily Hello Kitty and animal based costume jewelry but I want to assume that it’s good quality considering it’s all in the $90.00 and up range. You should check ’em out.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

It’s been a pretty good day. Baby and I headed out to Walmart, as planned, and wound up stopping at the liquor store before they closed. We picked up some MaiTai mix, mango rum, wine and beer. Crossing the street we got everything we needed from Wal-mart as well. We needed a gas lever for the propane tank on the barbecue and my original goal for getting there was picking up some canned chicken for Bella but there’s still nothing on the shelves which ticked me off. I did get some more 100 calorie packs because I’m in love with those things.

The childish side of us, however, kind of went a little nutty. We picked up a huge pink bouncy ball because it was only $2.50 and I’m a sucker for new toys. We also picked up a couple $1.00 water pistols and after dinner we kind of attacked each other with them, it was a lot of fun though so at least we know that we don’t have to spend much to have fun.

Tomorrow is officially Memorial Day which you wouldn’t know considering all of the barbecue’s and parties going on in the complex. Part of me wishes I had a picnic table in the back yard so that we could be outside as well but that’s alright. Baby and I are happy on the porch with our drinks.

Maybe we’ll wind up going back out there later after the two of us get some work done.
